I tried installing bothe the Catalyst 4.9 Beta drivers for Doom 3 and the current Catalyst 4.7 drivers from ATi and both tell me that I do not have either the hardware or software required.
Anybody else have this problems? If the mobility family of ATi graphics cards relies on the notebook manufacturers to supply new drivers I think it's a pretty piss-poor deal. They never update their drivers for the same notebook and in this day and age having the latest drivers can make a world of differance in games.

I'm pretty ticked also. Found out myself today that Ati doesn't provide the updated drivers for notebooks. That stinks. Doom 3 will look like pong by the time they come out with tweaked drivers for it.

Hey testtype..I have a suggestion for you. Have you tried the OMEGA catalyst 4.7 drivers? I installed them on my 2025 and got a considerable increase in performance. Only test i ran was 3DMark2001SE. Went from a 9900 to a 10200. Didnt think that was too shabby. Not sure what it will do for Doom 3 since I dont have the game yet. Another thing I found was this. http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/ This program will modify the original Catalyst drivers to work on your laptop or so it says. I have yet to try it. Anyway, I know the omega drivers work. Go to www.omegadrivers.net then go under ARCHIVE and its the top download 17.5mb I think. Good luck. Let me know if you decide to try the mod for driverheaven.

I've been using the omega drivers for a few months now (ASUS M6Ne). And I've been really happy with them. They seem just as stable as the ATI ones (on my desktop), plus have a few tweaks that increase performace a bit.

The Omega drivers are a good alternative to try, but if you really want to get the ATI Catalyst drivers working, you may want to try this trick. This is not guaranteed to work, but it has worked for me on my HP NX7000.
1. Run new Catalyst driver installer
2. It will error out saying you don't have hardware
3. You should have an ATI folder with subfolder created
4. Goto Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Adapter -> Properties -> Driver -> Update Driver -> (Advanved) -> Browse
5. Point to the last subfolder in the ATI folder (where drivers located)
6. Proceed with install, if any popups appear saying the driver is not meant for this card, just ignore and continue
7. When install complete, reboot and you should be done
Good Luck!

I have used the Mobility Modder mentioned above and I have to say that it is awesome. You just run the ATI install until it errors out, then you open up the modder, choose your video card, and hit Run (or whatever it's called). The program will add your card to the INF and rerun the entire setup program including the control panel.

You've all been a big help []

Cool, I'm glad to see it worked. Now I might drop my omega drivers and try the modder myself. See if it makes any difference in performance.

i'm very new to this driver tweaking. i tried to follow the instruction on the forum but somewhere along the line i ended messing up. so if someone can give me a step-by-step(if possible links of where i could get some of the needed installations) instruction on how to do this, it would be really great. i have a compaq nx7000 with 9200

i was able to figure out how to install it. but it reduced my radeon from 9200 to 9000. how do i clock it?
