I got a lemon too, except I paid 3100 Canadian after tax and extra warranty...

I WON'T buy acer again... not because I got a lemon, because of poor support.

it's just that the processor seems abit old.
but it will only be used for surfing net and some picture work.
all seems ok with it and the dvd burner is ok.
and my artec usb tv works well.

its just the celeron m thats the worry :)

The Celeron-M 400 series is based on the Core Solo so it shouldn't be TOO bad. Realistically celeron-ms are not quick by today's standards, but they are perfectly capable for basic tasks such as browsing, basic photoshopping, office etc. Even gaming is ok. Mine runs games playably.

Personally I would have got the Acer 7003 with the sempron for the dynamic switching and the geforce go 6100.

as long as the chipset is compatable with the new processor i think its ok.
but i DO NOT know if you must change other hardware/software speeds or whatever.

i sorta want the Aspire 7110... nice cheap 17" screen... saw it at staples last week. i love the way the speaker cover looks rubbery.

didnt realize it was the Acer Aspire 7110 till i got home... or else i woulda stayed and checked it out more

well i've been playing with it for 4months and have had no problems.
got rid of all the acer bloatware.upgraded the ram to 2gb the Bios to the newest as they seem to ship them with older drivers.
but its a nice laptop for home use but heavy. you wouldn't want to hump it about to much

nice. why dont you write up a little review for that notebook? i've searched NBR and the web and there arent that many. no in depth reviews atleast.
im hoping to be portable with my lappie just once a week, on saturdays when i go to church... i dont mind the weight. i'd have my mp3 player, dvd player, wifi device and "notebook" with me all at once.

have you any experience with the Celeron M 520? do you know how that compares to the 420?

im using a celeron m 370 and im satisfied with its speed... everyone must think im insane...

Verify that the bios is compatable with the new processor, but if you have maxed out the ram and add a faster HDD, it should be fine for what you are using it for.

your like me i only buy what i need and my last laptop(acer travelmate 230 4 years old)is still working great because i never over stressed it.
as for the new aspire its like all new pc/laptops you have to set it up how you like it to function.
7110 is a media unit good for pic's,mp3's and films
the audio is great using the SPDIF optical. the screen is readable even in bright sunshine.
the orbicam can be troublesome but after you update the drivers works great.
inbuilt speakers are not good "to small".
celeron M is old but it works well in the aspire 7110, just don't ask to much of it.
graphic's Mobile Intel(r) 945GM/GU Express using 224mb ram.you need to update the drivers straight out of the box as mine where two years old.the s-video out is easy to use with my 32" LCD tv using optical sound on my kenwood 7-1 stereo.
