    Hi guys,

I've a 2 yr old Aspire 5560. It is still in stock configurations and still runs Win XP.
As its SATA 100 GB HDD is almost full, would it be possible to upgrade to a larger capacity. Acer tech support told me I could only upgrade to 120GB maximum. Can't I upgrade to something larger? Anyone has upgraded to anything larger that 120GB? Thanks in advance.

    Cheers.

i'll check on that for ya as soon as i get free (4 am)

OK,, according to service guides for your model the highest HDD listed is a 120gig model,,, but that guide was written 2 years ago when there were probably no sata laptop drives higher than 120gig...

i've not seen a pc w/ a sata controller that has limitations due to size,,, you should be able to use a HDD larger than 120 gig... i have never heard of such a limit

thanks a lot bigO. I dont know if you could also help me with this other issue.
I had made a recovery DVD using the acer recovery utility. It is labeled as "ACER_BACKUP1". On the current HDD, I had made it into a single partition (C:\) and also converted it to NTFS.

The question is, if I were to install the new HDD, can I run the recovery DVD and the recovery tool during boot up to set up the laptop with the new HDD?
I mean, would the recovery DVD install Windows and the Acer applications and drivers? Sorry to trouble you as I'm quite clueless on these.

    not sure w/ your model,,

do you still have the eRecovery application installed,, and do you still have the "hidden" PQservice partition??

the reason i ask is because my model required 2 dvds to backup the factory image,, and a third DVD to backup the applications and drivers

BTW ........ ACRONIS true image will allow you to move your entire partition if you buy a cheap USB external HDD enclosure.. every easy to do

unless you just wanna clean-install of you OS
in that case you may wanna make sure you have made all recovery disks

i think it's covered in the owners manual,,, and you can download that at
