Can you please clarify what battery, charger, and laptop model you have?
Also do you get any indication that shows if the battery is fully charged?

    Thanks

Oh yes the light on the front chages from orange to green and the battery indicator initially shows fully charged but then quickly losses its chanrge even though it is plugged into the mains.
    Thanks

I'd suggest that you try placing your battery in another laptop (of the same type). Your battery has a built in calibration processor that needs to be 'reset' in another unit. A BIOS update, should also fix this problem (ensure that the battery is charged first though).
