I basically need to choose between two acers.
One is an Acer Asprire 3002 LCi. It has a Sempron 2800 processor, 40 GB HDD, 256 MB RAM, 15 ".
The other is an Acer Travelmate 4002 LCi. Same features as above but has a processor with Centrino technology of 1.5 Ghz. IT COSTS 250 DOLLARS MORE. And i would like to save that money.
I did not find an equivalent with Celeron (I prefer the brick and mortar shops).
My basic use of a Laptop is thus: Ms Office, Adobe Photoshop and Pagemaker, and Coreldraw. I will also use the internet. Also planning to watch movies and play MP3s. The most I will strain my notebook is when i deal with some images in Adobe. But that's it.
I also want a decent battery life (3 hrs) and DON'T WANT FREQUENT CRASHING. I also don't want a notebook that heats up too much. Don't know how much of all this is actually affected by the processors in question.
[?]So the question is: Is it really worth paying 250 bucks more for the Centrino technology considering my needs are basic?[?]
Thank you, greatly appreciate any help.

It is unlikely you'll get three hours from the Sempron CPU. A Pentium M will offer the best combination of performance/battery life. Plus it will run cooler than the Sempron.
I was robbed by a sweet little old lady on a motorized cart and I didn't even see it coming.

Hey, thanks.

The only difference i find is the battery life
Centrino in MAX battery mode = 4 Hours
Sempron in MAX battery mode = 2 Hours
BTW : battery life will dipreciate as time goes on
So if u'r going to use it ON mains (most of the time) go for the Sempron

Chairs101,
As I indicated in my response to your email, I'd go for the Centrino even though it's more expensive. The overall benefits out-weighs the added cost.
- Cooler running unit
- Increase battery runtiimes
- Probably less prone to crashes (Semprons aren't the best CPU's)

I'm with Venombite on the centrino. No other mobile platform can touch it yet.

Thanks a lot (!) for the feedback. I am sticking with the majority suggestion to go ahead with a Centrino. Not only does it get the majority vote, but when making an investment, it's not so wise to make an unsure one. Since nobody is willing to bet on a Sempron fully, I don't want to either.
THank you everybody, esp VB. Great help.
