I have just recently upgraded to vista on my Aspire 3102WLMi and I am having problems with the sound. The sound seems to crackle in the background. I have tried the vista drivers on the realtek website but to no avail! I have also tried installing the old xp ones from acer support site!

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

If you are not using the laptop speakers then I think the problem might be from the wireless card. I have noticed that wireless cards introduce some crackling in the background. Try turning off the wireless card and see if that is the cause.

If it is then I suggest you wait for newer drivers from Realtek or maybe ask Acer if they will have Vista drivers for your system. or you could move the position of the speakers farther from the laptop is the wireless device causes it.

Are you referring to a pcmcia card? As I do not use one as this laptop has wireless function built in. If i turn off the wirless function, the sound is still choppy.

I was referring to the built-in wireless.

Check to see that your IDE channels are running in DMA/UDMA and not PIO mode.
