For something different go to Acers' UK site and look at all the available models of Acers' 8920-6048 notebook. Most of them would sell over here. Wonder why they are not offered?

the acer-uk site prices when converted are much higher than simular systems in the US... they pay more due to VAT and strenght of the EURO..

and ACER has a much better reputation in the europe & asia... so the better equipped higher priced systems seem to pop up there first...

this is a sore point for me, having American in-laws and making frequent visits to the US.

We don't have the Euro (yet) but our prices tend to be higher because of VAT and because we are apparantly prepared to pay more!!

Suppliers control their prices to reflect this 'willingness to pay'. I think marketing people call it pricing to what the market will bear rather than cost plus.

If you tried that in a big efficient market like the US you'd need to bring your prices in line (with a reasonable margin) or go out of business very quickly.

Some computer items are much closer to their commodity prices than they used to be (memory, HDs, lower spec cpus).

For a real horror show try comparing the prices of cars in the US :D !

Lol I think it was somebody at Sony who justified the higher selling price of the PS3 here upon release with "They are willing to work a few extra hours a week to be able to afford this premium hardware"

Same thing in all of Europe, I think. I'm originally from Malta and let me just say - here in the UK prices look CHEAP compared to what we had there.

That said, please visit :p We're very dependent on the tourist sector and it's a lovely place, etc etc. Free guided tour by yours truly in September! :p

I've got to pay almost 2500$ for my configuration. Well, that's hell of a price, not Spain or U.K. or... else.
