I actually want to wipe my HDD because I get an error in partition table and I can't use Partition Magic and other tools..
I have created an Acronis Image for my PQService of about 8,5 GB and one for the other Hidden partition 3,5 GB - is this a CompaqSetup Diagnostic partition with ROM BIOS ? or is Acer Arcade-InstantOn ? cause I've seen it's name like CompaqSetup and in some utility program it's says about something with diagnostic.. I'm confused about this... and btw I have already created my Recovery DVD's.
So if I wipe my HDD, after it's all gone I can use my Acer recovery disks and reinstall Vista Ultimate and Restore PQservice and the other partition ? How do I restore my backed up partitions like PQservice and Acer Arcade if I don't have them already when I use Recovery Disks ?
I need some guidance on this - some helpful steps will be appreciated.
    Thanks

P.S. I tried to repair partition table via interactive mode using Partition Table Doctor 3.5 but with no success.. It wipes my current partitions.so it's not good..

Not sure if these links will help but found them and thought they might:

    http://ezinearticles.com/?How-to-Repair-the-Acer-D2D-Recovery&id=794500

    http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Acer-D2D-Erecovery-101&id=1160163.

Also, when you delete the hdd, and delete the pqservice partition you also delete the pqservice mbr, which will render the alt+f10 recovery function useless. It may also render the erecovery program within vista useless. There's a link here with a copy of the PQservice mbr on it:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?4myhqy2qxlw

I got it from this site, but they have no instructions on how to use it:

    http://www.fixya.com/support/t871734-acer_mbr_pqservice

I hope what i've posted is of some use, and hopefully with the pqservice mbr i've put, this helps you in some way.

Thanks for the links above. But I still have some questions.
I have currently made an Acronis Image of the PQService partition and Acer Instant-On partition but I don't know when to use them and how..
So after I wipe all my HDD I'm first thinking to restore my PQservice partition and then the other one but how actually I do this, with only 1 BD-ROM ? If I burn a disc with the image and put it on my BD-ROM ( btw it has 8.6 GB so I need a double layer dvd or there are better solutions ? ) it will boot or I need to run first a restoring program ?

    Hello C-S.

Well, I'm in a similar pickle....Wife got me an Acer Aspire 5315-2698 model ICL50.

And the vendor that she purchased it from put Acronis True image on it. and completely messed up everything in the hard Drive...but as it is a Rent-to-own Place....I cannot complain to them....what they put on their HD's they put on...and expect ME the end user to swallow it...while paying toward double the price...

So I unwrapped a lappy with

No Powering on with green E to instant-on partition to access Acer arcade Deluxe.

No E-recovery to use to make backup recovery discs.....

No pressing green E button while in vista to bring the nice little Empowering functions.

And No pqservice partition...Oh nice and acronis Secure Zone with deleted AA1 and AA2 TIB files that were rendered unreadable when deleted....GREAT...

Had to order from acer the system recovery discs....but unfortunately NOT to restore the HD to virgin state. (and people tell me here Oh, you dont really NEED THAAAAAT!, if you got the Cd's)

Now here on the forum people talk about the Napp CD. Which is supposedly the magic utility that would RE-VIRGINIZE your hard drive....Everyone here on the forum Wants one....Only ACER service techs have them...and NO they ain't giving any out....unless you send your HD in to them and pay an ungodly sum of dough to have it RE-VIRGINIZED, and sent back to you with a nice little reminder to back up your hard drive next time.....

Now of course there are people on the forum, who like me, are searching for the next best thing to Acer's Holy Grail. there's one forum that talks about Make your own napp cd from recovery discs. (provided you already made them BEFORE you nuked your HD, i think.....)

and then there is How to restore D2D without the NAPP CD (which involves the use of Acronis True image, diskedit, GpartED, a linux Live CD, eye of newt, tail of bat, and a black cauldron filled with no-telling-what, and an old ugly blue haired lady with a wart THAT BIG on the side of her nose...My guess is what vendor did to my lappy)

But mostly anyone who is anyone here will tell you the Acer Techs are like the invisible Hebrew Levite Preists that are only allowed, after much sanctification processes involving cleansing and fasting and prayer, to pass through the shroud veil and enter into the Holy of holies that is the Acer Service Center, and have access to the holy grail that is....NAPP.

and we mere mortal sinners must make do with the scraps and crumbs that fall off the table of the acer gods.

Aren't you lucky to be so near to the table?

    ================

sorry man I'm still bitter at the Rent 2 own vendor for giving my wife damaged goods and expecting double price. But its upgradeable...and I like the shape of it.....so I guess I'll keep the overpriced #%$!#@*!! for now...

    ================

    Hope you find your solutions.

Does acronis not come with bootable files so you can restore the backup from bootup.

Basically, i would restore the backup of pqservice and acer instant on, then install windows, then run the .bat file in the link i posted to see if it can restore the pqservice mbr.

    Enjoyable text ...
But .. Every ACER laptop gets sold with the holy grail in it.

If you become an original ACER customer ,
you will have only to do, a complete HD duplication in one external drive ....
And the holy grail are yours for ever.

In simple words , you do not have the right to nag. :)

You started one work with out to plan your steps .

You should had copy the HD files , in one external USB box Hard drive.

So , you must get one , with one HD in it , so to finish the job.

No offense, but i've NEVER heard of Acronis having problems, perhaps loading an unsupported version on Vista perhaps?

I've been using Acronis flawlessly for all of my systems.

Well, I do If I bought the thing and its all boogered,
Plus, if all is said and done, and I paid the doubled price, that they say, "Well, now it's yours! Have a Nice Day!" And Out the door I go without access to the original backup....

What if this hard drive are truly damaged ?

What if your theory are an excuse to save 40$ (new HD) , and at the end turns to be wrong.

Never the less , buy one new laptop hard drive , and the USB external box.

    1) you will be able to transfer files .
    2) you can use the new HD as healthy drive
    3) your old drive can be another spare drive if everything turns well .

There is no other options for this Job , i had use the same method.
Study well your steps , i can not hold your hand as help.
But at list, i gave you a honest crystal clear direction.

READ my signature link , do not wipe out the hard drive no matter what .

Why not wipe my HDD? If I've made backups of partitions ? What's the loss ? I want to do a fresh install of Vista without the bloatware and after that I want to restore my programs from the so called App's Recovery Disk that I've made when I first started using this notebook.
All this is because my partition table got corrupted!!
I just need a Win Vista DVD and then use a program called ABR to backup my current OEM license and after that I just need to wipe my HDD install Vista restore my license and all done..
What other options do I have ?

Well , i will put it differently .
The possibility that this hard disk is healthy , are less than 20% .

Laptops most of the time hits the ground in operation.
    Bad sectors are common problem.
Bad sectors caused by mechanical damage - impact ... does not cured by format.

That's true, but I don't need bloatware!!!! I want to do a fresh install and then backup my system with a fresh Win Vista with what I want - so in case my system crashes I'll have a backup without bloatware - I don't even use AcerArcade-Instant-on - So I'm going to delete that partition..
About PQservice it's useless -> cause I have Recovery DVD's but still I can easily do a fresh install and still have my key using the program specified in the above reply.
My HDD has of course bad sectors in the last Cylinder and I'm not gonna replace it... The only possibility that I have is to do a fresh install of Vista and then use virtualization for other OS's. I currently have Vista on C:\ and Windows 7 beta on F:\ . Nevertheless until I will buy my external HDD I will try this method. If I'm wrong about something please notify me. Regards!
