Hi-- I am not sure if this is the relevant thread, I couldn't spot a better one, but in any case I am trying to hook up my laptop to a television for the purpose of watching video. I have visited a multitude of internet sites describing this process, and I am using HDMI hookup so it should be relatively easy, but it is not working. Here is what I have:
-- I have an Acer Aspire 5810TZ-4657 and a Sanyo Television.
-- I have Windows Vista Home Premium. Unfortunately I'm really not sure about my video card.
-- The laptop has an HDMI output and TV has an HDMI input. I have connected an HDMI cable between the two.
-- When this connection is made, all functions are as if there were no connection at all. That is, there is no signal on the television, no audio, no differences in computer output, performance, etc. or any sign that the PC recognizes the existence of the TV.
-- I have tried everything that can be done in "Display Settings" (which I reached through right-clicking the main screen ==> Personalize ==> Display Settings). Various internet forums I have read suggest you can do "mirror" techniques or stuff of the sort but no such option exists here. There is only a screen that displays a monitor "1" and "2." Monitor 2 is smaller and faded relative to monitor 1, and I can only adjust the resolution on Monitor 1. The options in the pull down menu are "Generic PnP Monitor on Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family" and "(Default Monitor) on Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family." Neither of these seem relevant for a TV although I've played with them as much as I can, I can also "Extend this monitor onto desktop", again, with no luck.
-- I have tried various "key commands" that various sites have suggested such as FN+F5 or FN+F6 (for the sake of completeness, I went through all the F's, especially as I was getting angry at it). None of these seem to do anything.
-- I have went to Control Panel ==> Mobile PC ==> Windows Mobility Center where there are options to connect to external device, and if I do so, it says no device is detected.
Anymore suggestions?

Hi,
stupid question:
perhaps there are some adjustments needed on the TV?
Michael -
It is set to HDMI input (though, again for completeness, I tried all possible inputs including channels and Video 1, Video 2, etc)

Can you rule out a bad cable?
Michael
