Looking at the following two models at Newegg:

    Newegg.com - Acer Aspire AS1430-4857 Notebook Intel Core i5 520UM(1.06GHz) 11.6" 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 5400rpm Intel HD

    Newegg.com - Acer Aspire TimelineX AS3820T-7459 NoteBook Intel Core i3 370M(2.40GHz) 13.3" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 320GB HDD 5400rpm Intel HD

    Basically $50 difference in cost.

The 1430 is newly released. No reviews. The egg is about the only place to get it.

Specwise, they are very similar configs.

Form factor and weight advantage: AS1430

    Battery life advantage: AS3820T

My question is the difference in CPU, and how much will it be noticible in real life?

    AS1430: Intel Core i5 520UM(1.06GHz)
    AS3820T: Intel Core i3 370M(2.4GHz)

Just based on raw numbers, it would appear that the 3820T has a big advantage, but how real is it actually?

I'm really torn between the two configs.

    Thanks in advance.

There's quite a difference between those two CPUs- check here- find both select and click restrict.
These are CPUs meant for different purposes but that again so are the notebooks.

You're observation is correct, the 3820T has a significant advantage in power. I have both a 1410T (the predecessor to the 1430) and a 3820TG. I find the 3820T to be easier to work on for extended periods because of the larger display and I like the larger keyboard for typing (the 1410 can get cramped at times and I don not have large hands - I'm only 5'7"). On the other hand, the 11.6" size if very convenient for travel. I take it with me everywhere and tend to leave the 3820TG on my desk.

    Hope that helps.
