Hey all (again)! Okay, long story short, I had an Acer 1501Lce for a while, which had a consistent sound skipping problem (thereby rendering it useless for pro audio apps). I kicked up a fuss with my laptop vendor, and eventually got them to replace it with an Aspire 2012WLMi, which btw I'm very happy with.

Now, (and I probably shouldn't admit this publicly but hey...who's reading), we basically ended up in posession of the old laptop as well as the new one. Guess seeing how it's discontinued, they couldn't resell it, and they couldn't fix it either! Now it seems....other users like myself have found a way to solve the sound problem, by disabling error logging, and something called ACPIEC. This eliminates the sound problems altogether, although it also disables some power saving features, and disables the Fn keys..I think. In either case, this now has me contemplating whether I should be using the laptop I originally paid for...

So how do the 1501LCe and 2012WLMi stack up against each other in terms of power? I mean stuff like their key differences, FSB speed, AGP speed, HD, and how this affects performance. Also bear in mind, I upgraded my 2012 to 1Gb of RAM, so I'm assuming this RAM will slot into the 1501 too?

Any and all info would be great, cos when it comes to music software, every extra bit of power I can get...I'll take!

Hey Chimp, it's been a while! 2 units for the price of one...SWEET!!!! [ :D] I'd probably stick with the newer unit since it's given you no problems from day one. Disabling features on the older model isn't a great fix, it's just a workaround. Also by doing this, you also diable some power management features which will make the runtime of the 1501 shorter. You seem to be happy with the new unit, so I say stick with it.

Hey VB :) Thanks for your input. Apart from a few issues, one of which you've already adressed (the 100% CPU thing, thanks for that btw) true - I am very happy with the 2012. I guess it's just I felt a little done over, considering my dad's just got a 64 bit Athlon desktop machine lol aaand I was a little annoyed that they threw the 2012 at me like they were doing me some great big favour....when the Banias was just on the way out, and the Dothan was hot off the production line. I guess it's just the power freak in me ;) other than that, I am getting on fine with it. Think it just needs a good tidy up and a re-install.

    Cheers!

Hi, well, I agree with Venombite, better have something that does work and is (a bit) slower, rather than having problems.

But do you mean you got both laptops for free? How come?[ :D]

Did you tried any sound processing on both? Which is faster?
