    Sort of have a problem here. I just noticed that when I go to:

    Control Panel -> Folder Options
    - "View" tab"
    - Uncheck the "Hide empty drives in the Computer folder" option

    My 1810T's card reader still does not show up in the Computer folder when there is no card inserted into it.

    Has anyone else encountered this issue? Is there a fix for it?

    I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 w/ all available Windows Updates installed.

    Same here. I am running the Acer preinstalled Windows 7/64 Home Premium.
    No idea. Perhaps a general "feature" of Win7. Have you already checked the MS Knowledge Base?

    I've posted on the Microsoft Technet forum about it, but have come to the conclusion that this is just the way it works for some laptops.

    I noticed that the 1810T's card reader doesn't even appear in the device manager until a card is inserted. I guess inserting a card actually "plugs" the card reader in and removing the card "unplugs" the card reader.

    Yup, just confirmed it. We have a Samsung netbook that works the same way. Just read about it on another forum.
