So I've been looking at the new timeline series notebooks for a while and got really excited when newegg put up this model for $799! Anyways, I plan on getting an external drive and was just wondering if the SU9400 with Intel GMA 4500MHD could support playing a bluray disk on an external drive? From what I'm gathering through the numerous posts about these models, it appears that the SU9400 should playback 1080P off various websites but I couldn't find any info about a bluray player.

If so any suggestions on a compact inexpensive external bluray drive?

Go to Amazon.com and search "usb external blu ray drive" and you should be able to find it.

I've done it multiple times and there are 3+ drives that you can choose from on there.

I plan on getting a usb slim blu ray for mine. There are panasonic blu ray burners on ebay for less than $200. They dont come with software but an upgrade to the oem cyberlink powerdvd that should come on the Acer would be less than $60.

Search for UJ-225 for slot lot
    UJ-210 for tray load
UJ-120 for tray load player only (less than $100)

i was wondering the same thing, the new msi x400 has the same
    -GMA 4500mhd card
-SU3500 processor - the same processor except a little newer, sinlge core, and 5.5 volts instead of 10 volts

and is supposed to come with an optional external bd player, but apparently isnt out yet. so i guess theoretically that same setup should be able to run it.

what i found on another site shows the 4500mhd chart and says there are 2 different clock settings 320 and 533 mhz.

it looks like when the card is clocked at the higher speed it can run bluray but not at the lower speed. i am not sure if that is a hardware or software clock though, and im not sure how reliable the website is.

I received my UJ-120 today and can confirm it works great for cd, dvd, and playback of bluray of the 3810T-6775. I did not get the bluray burner but the dvd burner works great.
