    Hi,

Was wandering if it was feasible or compatible to use scrap parts from the 570 and replace for instance a dead HDD and battery in the 3000?

    Thanks

HDD shouldn't be a problem so long as the connections are the same, i.e sata.

Is the battery the same shape, would it fit, I know after having a couple of acers, the batteries have been different, so obviously wouldn't fit.

When you say 3000, what is the exact model?

    is it the 3002lci?

If it is, then the HDD's should be able to be swapped. Is there anything else you were looking at swapping?

Edit: is it a travelmate or aspire, this could make a big difference, if it's a travelmate 3000, then the HDD's may not be compatible.

Yes you're right 3002lci, the Hdd will be a great swap then, if I could I would replace everything with the new parts especially replace the cpu but looks to me like a stretch not sure, the 5570 has everything right except the broken screen.

oops was looking inside the hdd is ide not sata, that's a bummer anything else could be done?

the 3000 has sempron and the 5570 an Intel Centrino Duo

It occured to me can i swap just the display then

was it so outrageous what I said about the display? hopefully not.
If it came out that way, that was not my intention, just trying to figure out what is feasible what is not.
    Thanks

Just did a little investigating and found this out myself, which is a pain.

The displays may not be just an easy swap, and I'm guessing it wouldn't work, that's not 100%, but I'm just gonna have a look at some info and try and find out.

    is the 5570 screen 14.1" , if so then the 3000 won't fit as it's 15"

No probs, shame it's a no go.

How about buying a new screen for the 5570?

I thought about it, but not sure exactly how to go about it to be honest, it could be a hassle to find one, may be that's why the seller didn't do it also?

These are the part numbers for the screen, one's LG, one's Samsung, google the part no's, and you should find one:

    Samsung: LK.14106.005
    LG: LK.14108.003

    this is one on ebay:

ACER LK.14106.005 LAPTOP LCD SCREEN 14.1" WXGA | eBay

Also, if you opened the machine, you can find the part no there for peace of mind.

Edit: I would open the machine up and look for the part no, looking at some details for the machine, there seems to be about 10 different screens, some matt, some glossy!! Not sure if it would make a difference if you got a different screen to the one you have, I'm sure it wouldn't, but wouldn't want to be responsible for getting the wrong screen, but if you did open the machine up and got the part number for the screen, it would be pretty easy to find one, also there are guides online which are pretty easy to find, which would help you, we can't post them here as they are acer copyrighted documents.

Thanks again for the effort Full-English you're a true gent. This is a great forum by the way. I will save the money for now and stack it for a new lappy, an Acer of course this 3000 served well since over 10 years now and still does.
    cheers
