I tried searching for this topic, but could not find exactly what I was looking for.

I bought an Extenza 4420 a few weeks ago, and the screen cracked after only a week. I did not drop it or step on it or abuse it. Acer told me a replacement screen would cost $450 plus shipping costs. This doesn't seem right. The customer service at the store where I bought it, and also when I called Acer's customer service line offered no help at all.

My question is if there is anything I can do about it other than replacing the screen at my cost? And if that's what I have to do, are the replacement screens found on sites such as eBay a good idea?

First of all welcome to the Acer forum.

Secondly, screens crack because of rapid temperature changes too.

If your lappie was at one stage "hot" and then suddenly "cold" ,the screen would probably crack.

No abuse necessary. And it applies to all lappies, regardless of manufacturer.

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear about your screen.

Sadly tho the last time I saw a lcd screen crack on it's own with no user intervention was in the great "lcd screen cracking fever of 1983". You should have seen it...the screen was just fine and working and then without even touching it, moving it, even LOOKING at it... it would just randomly "break"

    /sarcasam

Please..... lets be honest here ok? Sh!t doesn't just randomly "break". I can see a bad inverter board or something being bad, but the screen actually "breaking"? yea gimme a "break" <===== sry for the pun

To answer your question, EBAY seems to be fairly reliable. Find a known dealer and order and replace the parts yourself if you can.
