    Hi,
I have a 1640 with Pentium M Processor 740 1.73GHz. What other processor can fit on that motherboard? Will there be a heat issue?

Any help in getting this old comp a bit faster is appreciated!

There's not much you can do about it. To substantially increase the speed, you'd have to add a CPU with a newer architecture like a Core Duo. However their TDP is most probably too much even if your mainboard/bios might be able to cope with it, which I dont't think it would.
//edit: nope, definitely not, since it would require a different socket //

Your only chance would be to get a Pentium M 780 (2.26GHz) but don't expect any noticable increase in speed!

Add some more RAM, faster harddrive/SSD or get a new computer. It is most probably not worth it to spend money on the old one

Thanks! I'll look for that 780 in the junkyard, I read somewhere about this upgrade. Maybe that with a small SSD can do the trick.
