My laptop just crashed again, same as before!

I installed norton internet security; installed updates before I went to cnet downloaded nlite to my memory stick; went to install and it told me I needed another program; got to microsoft site; noticed 73 security updates; downloaded and installed; installed norton system works so I can run diaognostics and create a backup after my computer was fixed; restarted.
Back to my original problem restarts with acer logo; goes through norton goback; straight to black screen with load error press any key to reboot; pressed a key; same message repeatedly.
Norton go back has only one time entry to go back to 1 minute ago; didnt work.

Before I boot from cd and enter into erecovery again; what would you suggest; does this have anything to do with restarting from all of the installs?

My original problem is the partitions thread, just posting here to get more answers.

IMHO do away with norton it causes more problems and dramatically slows down your system

Thankyou for your help!Do you think I should just restore with the back up disks again?

Any suggestions on virus, trojan, worm and email protection?

My laptop is part of a network of 5 computers in a business, nothing important is saved on it as I save everything back to the main computer which gets backed up everyday, but I still need good security.

NIS is a complete and utter piece of sh!t. It breaks and cripples computers, not to mention it hogs a ton of resources. Don't bother with NIS PERIOD.

You are a legend indeed! My acer starts instantly without norton! I ended up with avg free, spy doctor, ad-aware and all tracks gone. I booted from the xp cd, deleted PQSERVICE AND C: DRIVE re partioned formated both drives to ntfs (its good to have the two drives back) installed xp I wasnt sure how to re install the drives but was easy once I checked the device manager, the big yellow question marks kind of stuck out so I double clicked to see what they were and all my drives installed. Brilliant works as good as the day I got it!
Please let me know if any of the programs I installed are not good!
