I recently grabbed an Acer 5670 for about $250 because it had a damaged screen, messed up keyboard, and a bad battery.

I have sinced repaired everything, especially the screen, and I thought that the screen was pretty bright. The only problem is that my mother also got a new acer, the 5315, and her screen is definitely brighter than mine.

The screen that I purchased was off of ebay, and it was brand new. Are the older models that touted the "Crystal Bright" technology a bit darker than the newer ones??? Should I try the inverter board next to see if it may be going bad?

    Thanks in advance!!

I assume you've tried turning up the brightness setting on your system and still aren't happy with it.

It sounds like you've got a screen that simply has a lower maximum brightness than the one your mother recently purchased.

Cyrstal Bright is simply marketing speak for the glossy finish on the screens.

yea i thought that might be it. appreciate the response. i was trying gather information about the unit nits to see if my mother's screen has more than my own: (5315 has an 8ms/220 nits screen), i have heard that the nits value determines the brightness....

post #1 has a link to the manufacturer of the 5315 motherboard,, they also manufacture the LCD... my screen is very bright compaired to other brands (especially the old matte style finished LCDs)

maybe that link will help you determine some info about the LCD but i can't be of much help otherwise.... this post is the first time i've seen the term NIT

    wish i could help more,

It's an aspire, thanks for the offer, but I am gonna take one last crack with this inverter coming in. If that don't help, then I'll just deal with it, lol.
