I've just been running some tests to continue looking at an audio problem and seem to have lost control of the Acer Crystal Eye webcam program.
This is an Aspire 5536 running Windows 7 64-bit.

I disabled the webcam in the usb settings of Control Panel, disabled all usb and re-started the machine to let it all re-install. This seemed to go fine, so I just ran the webcam program to check. The program didn't appear to start. Tried a system restore. No joy. Re-installed the Crystal Eye program. Still the same.

Downloaded Skype. Works fine... I can see myself. Still no Acer program.

Ran up the older Acer 2920 Vista machine that I use for Skype often. Skype OK. Tried the Crystal Eye program - just a grey box no picture.

Am I doing something stupid or does this program work no more?

As no one has answered, can I re state the question more simply - Has anyone got an Acer running Vista or Windows 7 with all the current Microsoft updates and that can still run the Acer supplied Crystal Eye software?

Here it has stopped working on both current machines. Have I broken them both or has some update caused this Acer application to fail?

    Thanks for any feedback.

Didi you try different driver versions available on acers support site?

Ah, yes, thanks. I am an idiot and should have thought of that.

I was blindly following instructions from a Microsoft site about re-booting usb. Uninstalling from the usb section in Device manager removed the webcam drivers, but the usb on re-booting re-installed itself and with it the basic Microsoft webcam drivers. These worked for Skype but not for the Crystal Eye app.
I went on the Acer website and downloaded the Chicony (CrystalEye) drivers, but it turns out it must be a Suyin camera in the lid as those drivers, which don't mention Crystal Eye, work.

I'll have to investigate why the other machine's little display window is blank although the camera works in Skype.

But many thanks for confirming it was my mistake.

    Hehe :)

No need to call yourself that way... ;(

I have experienced it on my machine since some models are made with Suyin and some with Bison camera...

    Glad it helped...

    Cheers...
