Most acer owners say crystalbrite screens are better than matt ones, so i am about to choose Ferrari 4002 over 4402, (500$ difference), but, i have also read reviews that say non-glossy screens are better on eyes. I am confused. There is no store near me to check these two types. plz help me to decide. I am going to order my first notebook in next few days.

I got a matte screen mainly because I didn't want to deal with glare and it is easier on the eyes. It is still plenty bright though.

It's personal preference matter. If you work in an office for long time, matte is better than glossy. but if you want to watch movie on your notebook, I think you should go with glossy.
For some people, glossy could make eye-strain, but once again, you should go to retail store to try which screen is best for you. -
My acer has a nice glossy screen but I prefer matte in general.

Glossy screens rock.....matte is boring......but that's my personal opinion

As noted, it's more a personal preference. Unless you can compare the two you won't really know. I have a 4402 with a matte screen, and I'm quite happy about that. I detest glare from glossy screens, and can't see how anybody could actually want that - but obviously some people do. I was at a Circuit City a couple of weeks ago and saw several laptop models with glossy screens. There was no improvement that I could see.

Used a matte for the last three years, was quite happy.
Now I do a lot of photo-editing and video watching, I rather like these glossy finishes
Fortunately I own both. But I prefer the gloss. -
I thought the brite screens rocked when I first saw one on my friend's Fujitsu a couple of years ago. And I long thought about getting one, or thought they were going to be the standard thing. When I started shopping for my new laptop, I noticed that not all laptops came with it, so I decided to look into it a bit more. I asked my friend. He said he loved it the first few weeks he had. Once the "newness" of it wore off, he noticed it was really annoying unless the room was totally dark. He let me borrow for a night, in the hopes he could sell it to me if I liked it. I didn't like it, but I made sure to put it in situations where there would be glare. I gave it back to him and ordered the Ferrari 4005. Everytime I go to Costco or Best Buy or anywhere that has one on display, I look at them, and the 1st thing I see is the glare and mirror reflection of anything behind me.
One thing I never thought to look into... Desktop LCDs... is the brite stuff available? Or is that only for laptops? -
Intensecure, would u plz attach images of the two screens to compare? If possible, specially with text on the screen.
-
no silly laptop glossy screen can compare to my excallent Sony matte desktop screen
-
Matte all the way baby. When I saw the glare and reflections on the glossy screens I knew I wanted matte. DVDs look fine on mine.
-
I dont know which is mine?
How funny?
I have Acer TM 291Lci it has 1400X1050(15") native resolution and very nice bright, sharp and crisp. I wouldnt call it glossy, I guess its Matt. My acer's screen is much better than many laptops arround. But the time when I bought my laptop my friends were just envy me because of my great screen.

It's pretty easy to tell if it's Glossy or Matte, if it fingerprints easily and reflects like a dark mirror, it's glossy. if it doesn't glare very bas and fingerprints aren't very noticable, it's matte.

. Also when trying to photograph it I am getting bad moire patterns.
My new Acer is shiny and fresh, so of course looks better anyway you look at it.
Apologies.
I will say that text is equally clear and crisp on both though, especially with a quick tweak of the Cleartype Tuner Powertoy. It really does come down to reflections. If it was just for text, I would have stuck with matte.
Crystalbrite (glossy) or matt (non-glossy)
