Hi guys, im new to this forum as i recently purchased an acer TM5720. Everythings great with the laptop except i am unable to burn dvds. It has a slimtype dvd A DS8A1P ATA Device. I am using tesco DVD-R disks. I have tried a number of different burning programmes all of which prepare for the burn but simply eject the disk. An error often appears saying disk is write protected but they are brand new blank disks. I am running windows vista. Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks

    Hi.

have you only tried tesco disks, laptop dvd-rw can be very picky with the type of disks they like.

you could try latest firmware for the writer.

    regards

    John.

PS. looks like the drive is a liteon

but i can only find the firmware for an DX-8A1P when yours is a DS-8A1P.

Yeah i have only tried tesco disks so far. Probably not the best of quality. It appears as though the latest firmware is installed for my writer so i will try different disks. Everything else works fine with the drive so hopefully this will resolve the issue. Thanks for your help

It is affecting me for one. I have an Acer Aspire 4315 and I can't get it to burn on Kodak DVD-R's that have been working fine for me on my desktop. I emailed Acer about the problem asking them if I could change any settings or anything to make this work since I have a stack of these Kodak DVD's or could they give me a list of DVD brands that work and they basically said there is no list and there are no settings you can change, if you find a brand that works, buy those. I found some TDK's at the dollar store that seem to work but I would like to find something I can buy in bulk to save a bit of money.
