I have found that if I put a disc in my DVD/CD drive it doesn't get read by my computer. I can hear it just going round.

    Any ideas please?

I have an Acer Aspire 5610 on Vista.

    Thanks in advance.

Both would help, but liek he said, maybe if it is still under warranty you can get a replacement by acer. Optical drive is always a bit tricky.

$50 replacement burner (not made by acer) would be my choice... it the warranty is expired...

NEC/SONY/OPTIARC carry 1 yr warranty on DVD burners... while most companys only offer 90 day warranties

Just to let you know that I replaced this with a new one and it hasn't rectified the fault.

Right just to let you all know I managed to do a clean install of Vista from my DVD that it came with. The good news is that it fixed the DVD/RW not working problem, however.....

I used Acronis Image 11 to restore my hard drive and it isn't working again....

I seriously don't know what the solution is. But did you try asking the people at CD freaks (cdfreaks.com) maybe?

I have sorted it by just installing each program seperately...

I have no idea what the problem was. I managed to get a DVD to work that re-installed windows, but all the Acer items are missing such as the camera etc...

    Hi,

I had exactly the same problem twice.... and found that reinstalling Vista (twice) cured the problem... so it is a Vista problem and not a hardware issue!

    Hi kirkie,

I have the same problem. I've just installed the Windows Vista and my CD/DVD have the same problem. How I can fix the problem with the "HL-DT-ST DVD RAM GSA-T10N ATA DEVICE" in a Aspire 5610 notebook? If you have any idea then please tell me. Thank you in advance.

I think this has been discussed in other threads too. It has nothing to do with Vista, but with Roxio cd burning program. So, if you used Roxio before you install Vista, you might want to try and reinstall the program under Vista. Or maybe you can google "roxio cd rom not found" and get something.
