    Hi all,
The DVD drive does not show up in Windows or the BIOS.
There is power to the drive and the door opens when button is pressed but it will not read any DVDs or CDs. I'm running Windows Vista Basic, BIOS version is 3620. I tried a replacement DVD drive and that does not show up either.
    Any clues ?
    Thanks.

Just an update on this problem. The drive has now reappeared after being absent for over two days. Windows found it and reinstalled the drivers.
I would appreciate if anyone can shed some light on this problem.
    Thank you.

If neither your drive nor the replacement drive had been detected by BIOS it hints that it may be a loose connector on the motherboard.
