The cpu your looking at will be considerably better than the one you have, you will see a massive imporvement in the laptop. Also, you will need the thermal compund to do the upgrade as you may have heat issues, Arctic Silver is a good one.

Be sure to do the bios update before you put the CPU in.

    Thanks for the reply,
I did upgrade my bios a while ago to v1.43. Is that okay for the upgrade?
Is the CPu under the four screws around the cream metal thing, if you understand where I mean :)

    Thanks
    Nathan

The bios you've updated to is fine, thats the latest one on acer i think, and the CPU is under the four screws on the heatsink.

Hope it all goes well :)

In my opinion you'll get like 8-12fps more with these upgrades

If you press start, type event viewer, then have a look in there and see what errors are coming up, then post back here.

Edit: Also, go over the work you've done, open up the laptop, check that all the screws are properly tightened, the CPU lock is locked in place properly, thermal paste properly applied and also, where the gpu chip is, have you left the thermal pad there, or have you replaced it with thermal paste. Sometimes, this can sort out any issues you are having, maybe something isn't in place right.

    Hi,
There are no errors coming up in the event log other than when ive booted system after lockup it shows that shutdown was unexpected, but never an error at the point of lockup.
Ive gone over what ive done, and checked that all the screws are properly tightened and not happened again yet today. Last night it seemed to be relating to if I tilted the laptop a tiny bit then it would do it but unsure if that was the reason.
I have left the thermal pad there without any thermal paste.
Fan doesnt seem to be on as much, and processor is showing as running a lot cooler than the celeron, is that normal for the core 2 duo?
Also, sometimes the screen didnt lock but keyboard and touchpad did?
    Thanks for the help.

Hopefully, it won't come back, maybe something wasn't quite tightened enough, fingers crossed!!!!

I did notice that I left the fan power wire leaning onto the cpu heatsink thing, so moved it away, would that cause a problem you think?
