This is my first post.
I have an Acer Aspire 5630 laptop.
Just today, I noticed that the lid sensor on my laptop isn't working (it didn't go into standby). The sensor looks like it fell in and doesn't stick out of its hole any more. Earlier today, I wanted to send the system into standby so manually depressed the lid sensor, and I ended up applying a little pressure upwards as well, so I think I may have snapped something.
I tried pulling the sensor back up with a tweezer, but it just falls back in. If I press down (on the already fallen in) sensor using the tweezer, it senses and goes into standby, so it's working, just not sticking out anymore.
Anyone have any advice on how to fix the depressed rubber tip of the sensor? I'd really appreciate any help.

Is it still under warranty? If so dont fiddle with it! You probably paid good money for the warranty so its time to get what you paid for. Service! Even if you dont have a warranty, a professional is probably a good idea unless you can afford a mistake. It really depends how confident you are with working on a computer. If you decide to give it a go, probably your first step should be to try and find the service manual for your model of laptop. It should have an exploded view of the computer's internals so you can see what sits where and try to work out whats gone wrong. If your confident you know what the problem is and it looks fixable (eg, a missing screw) you could try to fix it yourself. I've pulled apart a laptop before and if you follow the instructions its not as hard as you'd think. Of course the laptop i was working on was my old dead one so i didn't have to worry about stuffing up!
Do your research, ask around (posting to a forum was a good idea!) then make an informed decision on what to do
