According to the product catalogue currently on www.acer.ca, the Aspire 8930-6555 will be available on September 20th in Canada.
    Pretty slick config, too:
    -Core 2 Duo P8400 @ 2.26 GHz
    -320GD HDD
    -4GB DDR2-1066 (!!!)
    -512MB GeForce 9600M GT
    -Blu-ray drive
    -18.8" WUXGA Full HD Screen
    -Intel WiFi Link 5300 a/b/g/n
    -8-cell batter
    -Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
    -$1,599 MSRP

It seems most of the Centrino 2 platform models are rolling out September 10th or 20th. No word yet on the 5930 or 6930.
And we can safely assume that Acer US should be getting the models around that time as well.

    nuts. that's pretty weak.

    P8400 + 9600 < T9400 + 9700, which seems to the going standard for performance / reasonable gaming.

any signs of an upgrade on that config?

FYI you will probably never notice the difference between the P8400 and the T9400 (unless you're editing HD video or do 3D renderings). It's just for bragging rights. I've had my laptop with a P8400 for a couple weeks and never encountered a "roadblock" because of the processor.

i recognize that they're positioning this as multimedia option rather than a work / gaming option -- still, i'd rather have the 6MB cache over the 3MB just the same for Photoshop and video encoding. and regardless, the 9700 runs circles around the 9600 for basic gaming.

the 8920 i was eyeing briefly had a T9300 + 9500; was hoping that when Acer moved into Montevina there'd be a bigger upgrade for Canucks. in the UK and other markets they're getting the 9700 as an option on the 8930. and other markets also got a 9650 on the 8920, but we didn't.

where's the love for Canada, eh?

No idea - keep in mind this is the FIRST model of the 8930G posted to Acer.ca.

Not sure - also, note that the 8930 has slipped in Canada to September 30th.

I wonder how soon the stores will get them - BTS is past now. They are probably carrying tons of distressed inventory now (open boxes, demos, returns).

I just submitted a Montevina system review and it was underwhelming in every way. Not faster than my 6920 in any meaningful way... but it slower system RAM (DDR2 800).

For a lot of people a discounted 8920 or 6920 might be better.

I paid 697 CDN for mine with a free Canon printer - that price makes it easier to cope with some of its flaws.

hopefully the bios updates will be backwards to the 8920.
