My Acer 5315 died during a power outage while updating the BIOS. I have been trying to revive it using an old post I found. I suspect everything is ok except for the autoexec.bat file that I have written. Any help? Or does anyone know where I can just get the Insyde recovery disc? Or any other ideas on how to get it back? I really need to get this back to life ASAP![]()

Re: 5920G Aspire - Bios Flash from DOS help please
Hi once again Belmont
God you are hazardous!!! . One little and humble advice: How did you have a power outage??? Did you flash without battery inserted??? . If so, never do it again!!! . If you didn“t send it yet (avoid Acer SAT at any cost if possible), try this procedure to recover your damaged Bios:
Please note, This is known as a "BLIND FLASH" and is difficult to do with no screen working.
The procedure is as follows:
1 - Download the latest (or the version you are after) from the Acer website. (once you have gained access to a computer)
2 - Extract the files from the archive that are for the dos update.
3 - Next, write a small autoexec.bat file using notepad containing the ".bat" file included with Dos Bios files. Make sure you save it as "autoexec.bat" and not as ".txt"
4 - Using nero express (or any cdr program that can create bootable cd's) and start a new project to make a bootable disc.
5 - Put all the files from the bios archive (as explained in no3) and the autoexec.bat into the root of the new disc
6 - click "burn disc" and use the native boot image within nero. I used english US Boot Locale.
7 - Finalise the disc.
8 - Put disc in affected Laptop. (Remember, this will only work if your laptop will switch on, fan noise, lights etc.)
9 - Switch off Laptop and remove battery and AC/DC Power cable.
10 - Whilst holding down "Fn + Esc", plug in the power cable, and switch on the laptop but dont let go of the keys yet.
11 - disc will begin to spin, fans will come on full speed, but no lights.
Release the buttons, wait a couple of seconds and press the buttons "Fn + Esc" again breifly, then wait for a good 5 - 10 mins.
12 - The laptop should shut down by itself, then once you switch it back on, it should recover itself and boot normally.
Good Luck!!! . Let us know
Kind Regards

For Insyde BIOS recovery is done not by crisis disk but by the filename of the .fd file it has to correspond to the filename of the file that the bootblock recognise.

Just glancing at this and not knowing what is in your other batch file IF50.bat
Call in the autoexec.bat asks to run the IF.50 bat then return command to autoexec.bat (No idea what yours says or does)
I am not sure why you are calling the exe file though, just the exe name followed by the switches (whatever they mean) ought to run.
HOWEVER I had understood that booting holding esc during boot would read the magically named .fd file if found off any CD in the drive - - - Could well be wrong though. -
inside of the batch file is
fla CL50143A.fd /fe /b
Do you know what my autoexec.bat file should exactly look like? What could I be doing wrong? -
No I am not sure . . sorry
The IF.50 batch file should run the fla.exe file (stick pause as line 2 then you can see any error/result you get
Dont know what the second Call would achieve at that point ?
As discussed I am in no way sure this is the correct flashing strategy for your Laptop/Bios -
Guys for Insyde BIOS the crucial part is the name of the fd file.
It must be the name the mainboard recognise.
eg JM31 x64.fd
You need to use x64.fd because EFI is native 64bit that is part of the reason they moved from BIOS to EFI. -
Weinter
So what exact files and file names do I need to use for a Acer 5315? Do you know?
Thanks! -
Try JAL90x64.fd according to a russian manual
