Hi guys, I found this forum by chance. This is a pretty cool forum on notebooks.

I am intending to buy a Acer Extensa 4620Z, however this is equipped with Linux OS. Comes with 80GB

How to I actually do the following:

    1) Delete the linux OS?
    2) Create 2 partions, C drive with XP (40GB) and a D drive (GB)

Or all I have to do is go into the setup and set to boot from CD-ROM, and insert Win XP CD and the rest, Win XP will prompt me?

    Thanks..

The Acer comes with Linux? That's pretty cool. I have an Acer 5920-6470. I e-mailed tech support with a Linux question. The reply was basically; "You're on your own, Bub."

This is just general stuff, not specific advice...

You'll need to identify the exact parts inside your laptop and try to figure out if drivers exist for them. That could be problematic or it might be easy. You'll need drivers for at least these items:
    Chipset
    Wireless card
Video if it's a discrete card. If video is onboard may be included in chipset
Sound will probly be part of chipset drivers but not sure
    Modem
    Touchpad

Some of the special keyboard buttons may not work in XP. Power management, lid close, hibernate, etc. same thing.

It's best to install XP before Linux, because Windows products want the drive all to themselves. What do you have for Linux OS recovery?

Unless you can find someone with the exact same laptop and they say it worked, you could waste a lot of time.

If you toss in the XP disc and it doesn't recognize the HDD, you might have to use a partitioning tool like GParted LiveCD and format the disk to NTFS.

I just googled your laptop and was directed back to this website!

all Acer Aspires come with Lipus Linux BE.

if you want get a Vista model , you will have to pay about extra 100US.

travel mates come with Vista basic or home premium.

I've never heard of that distro. Interesting how Acer offers completely different software depending on geographic location. Too bad Microsoft has such power over American market.
