Hiya Guys, first post, be gentle :D

I have an Acer Aspire 5520, and require the original CD/CD's supplied with the machine, can anyone help?

I do not believe requesting copies is illegal, seeing as I own the machine, its out of warranty now, and Acer UK can't help :(

    Can you?

Beer via Paypal if you can, please let me know

    Thanks!

    Chris

I'm really surprised at Acer saying they can't help. I rather suspect that they could, but they will probably ask for a fee to cover the cost of CD production and postage. Whoever you spoke to there is just not being very helpful.

Are you sure you spoke to Acer UK Support and they didn't provide you with a solution?
Something is wrong here, you either didn't speak to Acer or you ask for something else and they misunderstood you.
Is your laptop fully working? Why would you need the Acer recovery Disks?
Can you give us a more detailed description of your specs?

i rang them this morning, tech support, the guy said that the only way it could be done was to return the laptop to them for reinstallation and the cost of the service is £48.00 plus VAT and postage costs but as the Laptop was NOT registered to me (brought second hand) then there was nothing they could do :(

You would think surely that the disks would be available to buy!

I cannot even restore the machine as the old HD was dead, so i've installed a new one

You see it just doesn't sound right to me, I mean the 5520 is what, a year and a half to 2 years old now. They'll still have the installation media somewhere

Ok, because you could have created the Recovery Disk's on your own from the old HD

Does your machine have the windows product key on it anywhere - like on the base of your machine?

You see the other option is that you pay microsoft for a copy of the operating system and you simply use the key that you have. However, as their site states you should get this from your manufacturer you might not have any joy. Can't hurt to try though - have a look at this link:

Or if a friend of yours has a copy of Windows Vista OS disc and you can use your windows Product key there. You can use almost any brand Windows Vista OS DVD disc.

Yup, and Acer will most likely still have the rest of the drivers on their website.

I have the Vista Home Premium label and its a valid official product licence I Checked

Thing is, when I install Vista Home Premium, its missing loads of drivers and base stuff?

I goto the acer site, but for instance, there are THREE Drivers for the network driver, and what touchpad driver do I use? What Camera Driver?

I tried installing drivers, but there is still stuff missing :(

You won't be able to create a recovery disk with what you have now to be honest. So you can try each driver or you can check in Device Manager if you can see which hardware you have. The Windows Update should have picked the updates though.
If you want to create recovery disk though you can use the eRecovery soft from Acer Support. Acer laptops have a hidden partition that is used to create the recovery disks with the eRecovery soft.

Remember, he's on a completely new hard drive - no recovery partition.
I would go ahead with the clean install, and grab the drivers from the Acer website. It may be a little hit-and-miss, but that's what System Restore is for.
And please, make sure to have a backup on an external drive just in case!

I am aware of that TehSuigi, that's why I said ''You won't be able to create a recovery disk with what you have now to be honest''
I just gave the info on the eRecovery application for future reference.
