Hello, i'm wondering what the main difference between these two versions are? I have them both available in sweden at the same price. What i can see is that 6A4G25 has Blue-ray reader, 5400rpm hdd and the ATI Radeon 3650 graphic card and 6A4G25 does not have Blue-ray reader, it has a 7200rpm harddrive and a Geforce 9500M graphic card. Am i missing something else? Which one would you buy?
Here is a link to them both, its Acers homepage on swedish but you can still look up the versions under the text Konfigurationer

I appreciate all help i can get before i buy one of them in about 2 weeks.

*EDIT* Sorry, forgot the link: http://www.acercomputer.se/public/p...xParam=sv&ctx3=-1&ctx4=Sverige&crc=4027003824

try searching both models using google and see if you can find the difference.. it's just going to be a small configuration difference.. say different HDD SIZE or something like that.

I would love to have that 3650.

In my experience the old Radeon 2600 is better than the 9500GS. All my games run slower at LOWER settings than they did on my 2600 equipped laptop.

seems that the only diffs are the graphics/ram/blu ray option. If you really need bluray then get that one else perhaps the one with more ram would be better, I'm sure the hard drives are the same in each machine though.

consider the fact that you can get 2 x 2gig memory sticks for $60 or less,

but try buying a blue ray reader for that....

I would guess that the models sold in Sweden are quite similar to the ones in Finland. On at least one model of the 8920G sold here, the HD 3650 comes with 512MB of DDR2, not DDR3. Don't know how much that affects the performance.

Still, I would get the one with BR and HD 3650.

    don't all 8920's use DDR2 ram??

as i understand it only the montevina line of laptops can use DDR3... but i am often wrong.... and i think that the 8920's are based on socket P santa rosa CORE2DUO cpus,, which means that DDR2 is the MAX RAM the system can use.

now an 8930 or 8935 is likely to be based on the new montevina,, and have the possibility of being based on either DDR2 or DDR3.... and i would definately look for a montevina based 8930/8935 that uses DDR3 if buying now and given that option.... while the DDR3 would cost more to upgrade, it has a higher RAM SPEED, and use newer CPUs which will also have performance benifits there too...

i just posted to see if i was correct about aspire 8920's using ONLY DDR2 ram.

Yes, the RAM in 8920G's is DDR2. The 8930's should come with DDR3.

In my previous post, I meant the VRAM of the graphics card. Maybe the correct term would have been GDDR?

    8930 has DDR2-800 SDRAM, and GDDR3 VRAM.

i would doubt anything unless proof - gpu-z screenshot - is presented. Almost all the 9500m and 3650 mxm-ii modules have ddr2 - which is slower.

    8930G - GDDR3 (9600M GT and 9700M GT)
    8920G - GDDR2 (9500M GS); GDDR3 (9650M GS)

Even the product managers are wrong some times - so someone posting on a forum can be wrong too. I am not 'betting' on anything. If someone has the info the notebook they should post GPU-Z screnshots. It takes 30 seconds. :D
