Hello guys, I'm kinda new here and wanted to ask if anyone knows the difference between AS5745G ELITE and ACER AS5745? it's a not big deal, but still, wanna know the difference.

Welcome to the forums, klubakas!
The difference is the G - that stands for Gaming, and means that you'll be getting a more powerful GPU with your system for smoother and better-looking gaming.
The regular Aspire 5745 comes with the Intel GMA HD that sits beside the Core i3 or i5 CPU.
However, from a cursory Google search, the Aspire 5745G "Elite" comes with a far more powerful GeForce GT 330M 1GB GDDR3.
If you've got a choice, and don't mind sacrificing some battery life, go for the 5745G. -
Thanks a lot for explanation, but the specifications of both laptops i'm looking, got same GPU - GT 330M 1GB and the price of AS5745G ELITE is higher by ~60 euros(in 2 different shops), and still can't find that difference. Anyway if the the only thing it differs is GPU (in my way it same) i don't see point in buying G.
P.S. just saw that G' one got 640GB hdd while another one got 500GB.. can it be worth of those 60euros? -
60 euros no. It's cheaper to upgrade yourself.
-
In retrospect, I should have asked for the links to the laptops you're looking at; I was just working on what Google came up with.
-
That's OK, klubakas - "Core i5" and "GeForce GT 330M" aren't translated into Lithuanian on the external site anyway.
The AS5745G Elite has another difference too - a Blu-ray drive instead of a regular DVD one. If you want HD video, that might be the better option.
From what I can tell, the two models might also differ in battery - the top link specifies a 6-cell, while the bottom one mentions a 4.5 hour battery life that a 6-cell couldn't handle (especially with a GeForce inside).
Plus, I think the basic AS5745 is running Linux. -
thanks once more, now i got it!

Didn't want to create another thread, so asking there, not going to, but just got interested if it would be possible to replace CPU in future? if yes, then with which ones i could?
-
Possible? Sure. The Aspire 5745 should have a socketed CPU that can be replaced.
The Socket 989 that the Core i CPUs slot into can accept any and all of the Core i3s, i5s, and i7s, but I'd warn you about trying to cram a quad-core Core i7 in there - you might not have the thermal capacity to do that.
Stick with the dual-core i5 and i7 CPUs until someone nuttier tries it first. -
and VGA(Nvidia GF GT330) for example, replaceable or no? (not going to, just interested if its possible on notebooks or no).
P.S. It may sound stupid, but I'm kinda newbie on laptops.. -
Possible - although Acer's used the MXM format for replaceable graphics cards, their more recent designs have stopped using it.
Only ways to know for sure are to either get the service manual or open the thing up yourself. -
Is there a review of the 5745G? I'm considering buying one but would like to know whether there are any real-life issues with it.

Hi,
I have an Acer 5745, and it does have an Intel HM55 chipset. The difference in Acer 5745 and Acer 5745G series, is that the latter comes with a discrete graphics NVIDIA/ATI solution and the former with only Intel Integrated HD graphics.
However, the specs for Acer 5745 mentions 3 NVIDIA Discrete Graphics cards along with Intel Integrated HD graphics. Also there are NVIDIA drivers available for download for Acer 5745 also.
Does this mean that, ACER 5745 supports Integrated Graphics, but just does not include a discrete graphics card in the deal i.e. Shall I be able to install a NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 420M, on the PCI Express Slot, without any problem/major changes?
