Hey guys my "Digital Microphone" (the microphone on my laptop, 5820TG) seems to have disappeared..

the "Microphone" output you see in the screenshot is my external desktop microphone.. but funnily enough it's not even connected to the microphone jack on the laptop..

    Help?

The microphone we can see on the screenshot is actually your internal microphone not a not connected microphone standing on your desk.
The screenshot looks like it should look like.

it's not.. cos when i try to record with it nothing happens.. and when i plug in my external.. it works (nothing changes in the screenshot)

edit: i just tried uninstalling the Realtek HD audio drivers and now I have 2 microphone outputs in the windows volume properties.. I then upgraded the drivers from 2.52 to 2.56 and i've still got the same problem :S

Check if it's not muted and be sure to use more than one app to check if it works it may also be application related.

it's not muted. it's not application related.

this is what happens when realtek hd audio is unistalled.. using windows 7 64bit built-in drivers

as u can see there two microphone instances.. in the screenshot, my external microphone is not plugged.. i have tested both.. and they both work.

once i install the realtek hd audio drivers, the internal microphone instance disappears as shown by the screenshot in the OP

If you set the Speakers to Quadrophonic or 5.1 sound some device WILL DISAPPEAR because the speakers are supposed to be Stereo only.
