    Hi!
    EDIT: I'm using windows 7 64 bit.

My problem is that the receiver is detected as Microsoft eHome MCIR Keyboard, Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard and Microsoft eHome Remote Control Keyboard keys.

This driver has incompatibilities with some programs I use like for example DosBox. When these devices are installed, they cause DosBox to incorrectly detect some keyboard buttons.

The workaround is to remove or disable the 3 hardware devices. Unfortunately, I the disable option is grayed out and when I delete them, they are reinstalled on next restart.

Is there any way to hack windows in order to prevent their installation? I was thinking about locating the drivers these devices use, but they are buried somewhere in windows installation and I don't have enough experience to find them, so I'm asking you for help.

Just uninstall the drivers if you don't use it at all. Use add and remove programs

The drivers are part of windows and as such aren't listed under add/remove programs (which is called programs and features in vi$ta/7 and relatives).

    Thanks for answering anyway.

If you go to system properties, hardware tab, device installation button, you can disable windows from automatically installing drivers on startup.

I was talking about removing the cir driver as that isnt part of windows. And I know that but most people know what I mean lol. I haven't come across any issues with it on my laptop yet. Try what mesmer said as that would work and stop it from reinstalling whatever driver your having issues with.

Can you give me the exact name of the option? All I have under system->advanced system settings->hardware->device installation settings are options related to downloading drivers and device images from windows update. I disabled those and after restart, the offending devices are again detected.
Also, please note that the new device detected dialog doesn't show up at all. After restart, the devices are just there. No detection is displayed.

The options i use are "No, let me choose what to do" and "Never install driver software from Windows Update", by the way, i'm using Windows 7 home premium x64, maybe you have a different version? . Also, you should consider any ativirus software that might try to protect your drivers and maybe disable it, or even try doing this is safe mode.

I tried with that options and once system starts, the drivers are already installed. 7 ultimate 64 bit here. I'm using Avast free but I don't think that it is trying to mess with drivers. I can delete any other device I tried deleting without any problems.

Here I am answering my own question. I downloaded Windows Driver kit and used its devcon tool in a shell script that will start every time computer start and have devcon remove all devices in the same class as receiver. It's not a permanent solution but it seems to work. Credits for idea go to SuperUser's MarkRobinson.
