The Travelmate business line of computers that are based off of the Timeline series have discrete ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4330 graphics cards. I think there are even some models in the European market that have the ATI graphics card.
Do you think it would be possible to install a graphics card like the HD 4330 into a 3810T (13.3" Timeline) or a 4810T (14.1" Timeline) notebook?
Is it even possible to do this with any notebook?
I'm leaning towards a 4810T as my first choices (the Asus P30A and Acer Travelmate 8371) have not been invited to the Canadian market. The only thing that holds me back is the integrated graphics card. Should I hold my breath and wait for a Timeline notebook with a discrete graphics card?
Why would Acer be reluctant to release a Timeline esque notebook in North America with a discrete graphics card? The ATI card doesn't suck up that much power. I'm a little confused.
Cheers.

Buy a Acer 8371 in Norway. $1080 and approx $275 give or take depending where you live to ship, I assume this includes customs tariffs. This is as of the exchange rate the last I looked. Price subject to change due to exchange rates and currency conversion fees if applicable.
Has the ATI option. All you need to buy here or you may have it is an international plug kit since its power is autosensing which is very cheap.
Unclear if it will be sold in the USA or not at this time. I will see what happens in September. -
By install graphics, you mean to put it into laptop? I Don't think it is possible with modern laptops anc cards, especially ultra portable ones.
ATI is installed along with Intel graphics, so when on battery, You can use less power hunger Intel. -
I figured it was improbable, but I had to ask.
I have to get a notebook for school next year, but I don't want to regret getting my 4810T right before they introduced models with the ATI graphics.
Does anyone know of any other ultraportable laptops with a discrete grahpics card? The only other one I can think of is the Vaio Z series. -
If You can wait a litle, Acer says that August-September more powerful models should appear.

While you can't install a GPU yourself, Acer does have Timeline models with discrete HD 4330 graphics. Whether or not you are able to purchase that particular model is a different story. Unless you do a little gaming, the integrated GPU will be sufficient for watching movies, HD content, etc.

Business class has everything you want and more. It is what I am getting. Will take time to get to North America, but if it doesn't you just buy abroad and ship it over and change the plugs from the nation which has the lowest price and best currency conversion rates.
No big deal really. The Travelmate is magnesium alloy while the regular Timeline is not. Also matte screen, and higher end features sans sound since I think some of the higher end sound features are removed on business class.
SU9600 is better than SU9400 which IMHO is just too weak. It is 1.6ghz vs 1.4ghz on the SU9400. .2 ghz might now sound like much but it gets you much closer to the 2GHZ mark.
So SU9600 and faster as Intel gets them even better. -
I really just want the dedicated graphics card. I guess me and Acer are going to play the waiting game. Your move, Acer. Your move.

I want the Travelmate with ATI with all the frills. Acer's move as well.
Im not posting anymore for a long time as Im waiting for new competition to emerge and to see if Acer raises the bar with Travelmate to the USA.
Discrete graphics in a Timeline, wouldn't that be nice?
