Sorry if this is a dumb question.
Would an 18 month old Acer 3690 that shipped with VISTA have the option in ERecovery to reinstall the whole OS from the hidden service partition. I know XP versions do, what about Vista ?
Trying to help someone... haven't got the notebook here... when I upgraded XP to Vista I remember that ERecovery at the time wasn't supported... wouldn't work with NFTS or something according to Acer.
    Thanks

All Acer have this options as far as I know. Acer DO NOT provide any disks only a recovery partition.

Interesting...something I have just read in a mag. A review of 6 different laptops, an Acer was one ( came out top ? I think ), well all the recovery options are listed for each, and the Acer say's "Burn recovery Discs" as the only option listed. Other makes had "Recovery Partition" as a further choice, but not the Acer.

Well, the laptop itself come with recovery partition. When you turn it on the eRecovery remind you to burn the recovery cds..maybe they meant that...as I said Acer DO NOT provide any CDs/DVDs so the only other option is the recovery partition.

Thanks ATG... if only I had the notebook here !
My Aspire with originally XP definitely had the option to recover from the hidden partition, I even used it once, and yes it kept asking to burn discs too, which I did. Seems strange reading in print that the Acer in that review didn't have full recovery from the hidden partition.
Any Acer/Vista owners here that can confirm that I wonder.

Yes. And as I said, I'm 99.9% sure that all new(last 1-2years) Vista based Acer laptops come with recovery partition.

i have a travelmate 230 which is six years old. it has the D2D recovery and it ask me to burn three cd's. it still work great windows xp home.
all ACER laptops have D2D recovery and will ask you to burn two DVD's when you first start the laptop.

Please for your and my sanitiy BURN THE RECOVERY DVD'S.

To restore your laptop to factory condition use ALT+F10 at the ACER screen.

also if you have the D: drive option, put all your important files and back-ups on this drive. even with a factory restore, the D:drive partition is safe and any files on there are also safe.

    anything else ?

    Phil :D

    atg, alright Bro.

Alt+F10 just keep tapping them from a restart.
if its not working check in the bios that its switched on.

try using Alt+F10 when windows is running and you should get the erecovery screen that will let you try and burn the recovery DVD's again.
make sure you have the burn speed on its slowest setting.

if you have no luck, post back here and we will see what we can do.

    best of luck
    Phil :D

I've actually tried Alt F10 loads of times, and D2D is enabled in the BIOS

I should point out that I have removed Vista and installed XP however the hidden partition was left intact.

Hello if the hard drive was replaced can the eRecovery PQSERVICE be put back? I have a Compaq desktop and I have replaced the orignal drive and the recovery CD'S put the recovery on the new drive. Doese Acer have a disk that will do this? If they do not maybe they should. I like haveing both CD'S and then the recovery partition incase I am away from home and need a recovery.

I do not have the orignal drive. Can I put the recovery on the new drive? I know I have posted I do not like partition recovery I meant I don't like just that. OEM'S should send both I think Dell doese because my niece hers has an OS disk and also has a recovery partition with some files not really an image just a bunch of folders.

You don't have original drive anymore ? pqservice partition can be easily copied (to new drive) using commercial partition utility .

Acer has a tool that remakes it then after that the recovery disc will work.

Only if the recovery discs were successfuly created, which in my experience they wouldn't, and conveniently, Acer want £50 for a set!

Where do I get that tool? Can I download it? I have a program called Partition Commander. I can boot to the CD and run it as a live CD and make
a PQSERVICE partition. Don't it need to be the first partition and hidden? Then the C ACER and D DATA. Or is the PQSERVICE like hidden on the D partition?

As you suggest, it's the first partition and hidden, why they don't just leave it accessable like on an HP I'll never know, actually, of course I know, it's because they want to rip you off of £50 for the recovery discs that the system conveniently fails to produce!

Hp and Compaq the partition is viewable. But the aucual files are not viewable not booted up in Windows unless you have a program that would allow you to view them. The only thing viewable on the recovery drive on my Compaq is 1 file called RECOVERY. If I try to open it I get

    Recovery Partition

Unless your whole drive dies then D and all your files are gone. Make a backup of the whole drive even the PQSERVICE to an external drive.
