I have an Aspire 8930 which came with Vista.
I've only had it for 18 months, and having upgraded to Win 7 find that there are a few problems for which Acer appear to have no updates.
The main problem is that most of the Multimedia controls on the left of the keyboard do not work.
Is anyone else experiencing this?

I installed windows 7 ultimate 64 over my 6920 copy of vista 32 bit and all of the drivers installed without me needing to do anything.
Have you run the Windows update after starting it for the first time? I had around 400mb of installations required when first installing but even my fingerprint scanner was updated.
If not you can access the forum here:

To get the drivers for all windows for all aspires and I found this very helpful. -
Thanks Dallers.
I did a clean install of Win 7 about 6 months ago. I installed all the drivers I needed manually at the time and everything seemed to work OK.
I never really took much notice of the Multimedia controls as I didn't use them much - but now I am using the Blu Ray player attached to our new HD TV, and only just realised that only a couple seem to work -ie the play, pause and previous chapter. The rest - volume control, next chapter, fast forward and fast rewind don't work. -
On mine the volume control feature has always been temporamental and I have to just keep reinstalling it. The above forum post has the drivers for your laptop so hope that helps.
Quite a few posts mention about your problem and say they just turn off the machine took out the battery for 60 seconds put it back in and it worked. Worth a go but my bet is its going to be your driver. Let us know how you get on! -
I tried the 'battery' option - no change.
I installed the latest audio card driver this morning - what others could be affecting the controls? -
Sorry forgot to ask you are you running x86 or x64?
-
Ok found the drivers you need in this post:
Win 7 x86 & x64, uses Touchpad 14.0.0.3 and Launch Manager 3.0.01 to run the Multimedia Cinedash feature on the Acer Aspire Series. Please be advised that currently there is an issue with the volume control module on some models and an updated driver is soon to be released.
This could be why im having troubles with my volume control but the above two drivers are what you need, it appears the Synaptics touchpad driver runs the whole lot according to Acer. -
Thanks Dallers.
I haven't installed all of those, so I try the missed ones and let you know. -
Your welcome
Hope it works for you and if your volume slider works as well I will be very jealous that is the only feature I use and it doesnt work -
The multimedia controls on mine are controlled by the Dritek Launch Manager; I actually installed the Vista version (can't remember if I needed compatibility mode) because the Win7 version didn't quite control the CineDash as well, volume included. It's worth a shot.

I will try that as soon as I get home from work being lazy and writing on the forums Tehsuigi it wont be the first time you have saved my bacon
-
Thanks guys
That did the trick (including volume control) - except.....
I'm not sure what it's for, but I thought maybe the 'Empowering technology' was the problem earlier, so I installed it, but when it lauches it says that the operating system is not supported.
What is it for, and is there an update?? -
Yes Empowering Technology doesnt like Windows 7 for me either in fact when mine installed all of my drivers it actually just left that out which is probably why. Im sure they will release an updated driver for it soon.
Actually wait sorry its ACER No they probably wont
EDIT: Its for the general management of the ACER features, its not something you really need with Windows 7 as it has Power management, security, backup facilities already installed with it. I have never used it personally but there are couple of features that were handy on Vista. -
Thanks.
I'll just uninstall it then -
Installed the upto date launch manager and my volume control has fixed itself one thing I have never been able to get to work is the BIOtechnology fingerprint scanner? Tried everything i know and installed the latest drivers and still when scanning it just cannot recognise my fingerprint and then goes ape on me and keeps on scanning without me even doing anything! Any ideas?
-
Ignore it? I honestly stopped using my fingerprint reader a while ago.
It really is finicky and badly placed to work properly. -
Yeah i know
I think its just reading my palm when im using the touchpad im just a gadget freak and although I dont need it anyway I just like everything to be working!
GRRRRRRRR!Must ignore Bioprotection!!

This is interesting do you by any chance have a link?
If its works ill throw some rep your way as I would really like to sort it out!
Thanks -
Found it here http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/438823-acer-8930g-tweaks-wallpapers-etc.html
Hope this helps -
It worked. Amazing! Reading the notes it explained why it was picking up my hand movements over the fingerprint reader because it can only pick it up when its being swiped towards you not away from you. clever.
+ 1 to you sir!
Do Acer support Windows 7 for the Aspire ????
