ok I am getting a new laptop and they said they can remove all the bloat ware etc for $80. do I need this? also no I don't have a clean copy of windows vista
do I also need to get office 2007? its an extra $100 I already have office 2003 with me
getting a Acer 6920
-
Sounds like extortion to me.
I wouldn't pay it. Just remove the programs when you get the laptop. As to office 2007... I wouldn't pay extra for that either. 2003 is still fine. Also, a lot of people have trouble getting used to 2007. It's quite a bit different.

thank you for your reply
but i have never done that before and i hear alot of guys reformat using a copy of vista but i don't have one
i guess i would come home and spend the night google-ing how to do it
-
If you're a student you can get Office 2007 Ultimate for $60: http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx
Sure, Office 2007 takes a few weeks to get used to the new ribbon interfact, but it's much better than the Office 2003 interface and is well worth learning. -
There is software you can download to remove bloatware just do a google search of the forum for bloatware removal guide and your manufacturer.
Use 2003 till you NEED 2007 -
Does Acer send out OS reinstall disks? If so, it's very easy to do a clean install.
Agreed. If you have 2003 stick with it unless you really want 2007. -
$80 to remove bloatware? That can't be legal, sue their a$$
-
Sorry for the cross post
****, man i don't live in the USA to be eligible for the $60 offer
(Canada) man isn't that thing like $600+ ?
ok i don't think i will get either and somehow try to make things work
Thank You All!!! -
In the upper right corner, mouse over "Country/Region" and under "Coming Soon", Canada is listed. There is still hope!
-
or and one more thing
i am thinking about getting in store warranty that covers everything
one year is enough right? coz i was thinking if something was to go wrong, it would go wrong within the first year or so -
Usually one year is fine. But that decision is entirely up to you for you to assess the risk and cost because I am not responsible if I suggest one year and then something happens after one year!
-
LOL don't worry i won't sue you
i was just asking but i think i might stick to 1 maybe 2
but i hear that the battery might die completely and how much wold it cost for me to replace it? -
if you need any help removing all the bloatware.
just ask, i have removed all the bloatware from my acers.
just make sure you burn the recovery dvds when you are prompted to do so when you first start the machine.
if you need any help just ask and we will gladly do so.

Phil

-
About the Bloatware.
After removing the bloatware, exception of the Empowering Technology and Erecovery, you can update your windows and burn a DVD using Erecovery. This DVD will be a bootable image of your system.
The next time you reinstal windows it will be free of all the bloatware. -
Variable speed Blu-ray Disc reader and CD/DVD multidrive
what does this mean?
-
That the drive can read Blu-Ray disks and Read/Write CD/DVD disks.
-
Ok i just got it and started it up
it asked what my UI(i have no idea what that mean) language is and I said English LOL
and it also said Windows vista Home Premium *86
-

-
ok i'm screwed it did NOT ask me to enter any DVD's so basically i have no recovery CD
-
