    Thanks!!!And you are welcomed... :)

Good luck on on your re-install...Keep in mind though that you will also install all the Acer crapware.Maybe you should consider a clean install of win7 if you have an available copy(or you can download one).Your win7 key will still be valid.Worst case senario you will have to validate through a 10 second phone call...

I have original windows 7 dvd`s so i could do a clean install, and i have Acronis true image home 2010 so i could just copy my current hdd , but i wanted the option of using the recovery dvd`s , if i cannot be bothered to install all the drivers and windows updates again.

    Thanks Again.

How can you start the recovery if the Alt + F10 won't work anymore? The new drive won't have the Alt + F10 hook in the MBR.

Just curious, as I'd like to nuke my recovery partition, etc, and do a clean install.

You boot from the recovery disc.

So the recovery DVDs are bootable?

Does the acer recovery DVDs re-create the hidden partition?

Edit: From what I am reading the recovery DVDs won't even work if acer's MBR is overwritten or changed. But it's hard to tell - no one seems to have a clear answer on this.

I agree with your statement, my Timeline 5810T's hard drive failed a few months ago (windows vista), there was no other option but to replace the hard drive, I bought a new hard drive with the same capacity and speed, after installing the new hdd, i checked the bios to make sure that it was set to boot from the optical drive then preceeded to reinstall with the recovery DVDs, it copied and loaded the files, however, after the first system restart, the installation halted and displays a message box that says "Windows cannot install on this computer, please repeat the installation" I repeated the installation but no luck, I even tried both drive options in the BIOS for installing with the hdd in SATA mode and IDE mode but still failed, I thought everything would be smooth with the recovery DVDs after replacing the hdd.

I resorted to install a clean copy of windows 7, thanks for the free upgrade cd from the "Acer Win7 promo" and I love using windows 7, never had any problems since, and win7 is definitely the best so far from microsoft.
