Well, I think Acer is a nice band of notebook. They offer a quality notebook for a decent price.

I have had mine for about 2 months. I haven't experienced any quality problems. It is very well built, and Acer makes valid claims.

If you're looking for a notebook, fill out the FAQ in the hardware forum and see what people recommend.

    Chaz

I think Acer offers good value, but if you want a more bullet-proof notebook you are going to have to spend some more money.

I spent a lot of hours researching my purchase of a laptop. I ended up with a Acer Aspire 5000. (Turion-64, 1 GB, 100 MB hd, 15.4)

I got it at Circuit City and I'm very happy with it. I'm working on a chapter for an upcoming SQL Server 2005 book, and I use the laptop to run MS Virtual PC with the SQL Server beta.

    The extra memory really helps.

    Very happy with it.

I think Acer's feature-rich low-prices scare off more knowledgable shoppers as too-good-to-be-true and end up attracting alot of customers not very tech-savy. They have problems or unrealistic durability expectations and blame the hardware.

My Acer 303xmi tablet PC has been a solid, stellar machine for nearly a year of daily, hard use. Never a single issue except for paint wear at the palm rests with all the typing. Its been by far the best notebook I've ever used, regardless of price.

The screen is great, keyboard tops, runs fast yet quiet and cool. Great wireless, long battery run. Couldn't expect better performance or value for the money for the user smart enough to avoid physical abuse and just treat the hardware well. Most Acers are plastic and need to be handled accordingly.

Hi I have to agree wholeheartedly with what's being said I've had mine (5021WLMI) and to be honest looking around at what i could get for my budget there's nothing out there that come's close! the build quality is very good, the specifications against cost is extremly generous i.e the lastest x700gfx,100gb,amd 64bit turion etc could'nt find anything around to match this for the money! All in all i'm very happy.

I think acer is a good value for the money they also have decent screens and are fast machines. But i think they are built well but they are not as durable as other machines i think they have to be taken care of well and u will be ok def not as durable as say and Asus notebook but then again they cost more. personaly i would pay 100 more for an acer if they made the casings stronger.
