I really want to get an Acer Aspire One, but I don't know how reliable it is. Can someone who owns one tell me there experience with it? It would be greatly appreciated!

PLEASE DONT BUY! I just got my Aspire One few days ago and the mouse pad stop working already. The dealer told me that I can upgrade the memory to 1.5GB and forgot to tell me I have to take the unit apart because the Acer engineer forgot to put a memory upgrade trap door under the laptop. When I contacted the Acer Tech Support, I was told by the level-2 support call George (Sept. 2, 2008 7:45PM EST) that there is no Aspire One memory upgrade program in place. He said Acer does not recommend field upgrade (translation upgrade memory yourself) for Aspire One and I will have to pay for the parts if I damaged the computer while upgrading the memory. When I asked him why Acer did not post this information on their web site and he told me he is not responsible for the company site. He also suggested I should write to Acer America to voice my concerns (translation complain).

I'm also thinking about getting acer one. Cant really beat $350 price (win xp, 120gig harddrive)
But waiting to see what dell is going to come out. -

The Issue a1dispaoeinted mention shound be more address to deal that said it can be upgraded
I have say It run vista pretty good Yes Ram is issue for some less techincal
but stock memory is pretty a 1 gig
Yes it can be uprgade if you carefull will void warrenty problay not if you carefull take you time upgrade
I Have x61 Tablet great machine but some time i want something small use my aspire one no issues yet with expect know password bug that be most likely fixed in new bios -
I have 2 of them and they are working to perfection. I normally don't buy acer and try to avoid them but the price was too good to pass up ($200 at Best Buy). I've even played Starcraft on it and get around 2.5 hours of battery life on it. My only gripe is the positioning of the touchpad buttons on the side which I've never really gotten used to, but I normally use a mouse anyway.

Yes As Sero say they not bad I asume you got windows model also ?
Just curios seem better way to go the xp model -
I havrade e the 120 Gb WinXP version and I must say I love it. I have done the 1.5 Gb memory upgrade and it really is a pain in the a**. As far as reliability goes it's a bit early to tell but I would suspect if dind't have a falure already (10 days) it should be OK. From a price / perfomance standpoint right now the AA1 is the game in town.

I think we shound start aspire one club they are realy cool little machines

I saw $399 for the 6cell 160gb XP version and I was about to get it but just waiting on more feedback.
I guess it uses a synapsis touchpad? The MSI Wind started using the off brand one and its supposed to suck (no slide scrolling) also one great thing about the Wind is the LED backlight the Aspire one does it have LED backlight?
The good? Price its $100 cheaper than the MSI Wind and has a 6 cell battery instead of a 3 cell, 160gb HDD vs the 120 of the WIND
The Bad? No Bluetooth, Screen not as big/nice, maybe not as well built?
So thats why I am waiting.
I have my eye on the Asus N10, also Levono, Dell, and others all have models on the way or already out. -

I was looking at one of the netbooks to compliment my gaming laptop. I had no idea I could get one for 330 like they have at Best Buy right now. My aunt wants one too but she doesn't understand much about computers so I don't want her to have to deal with any problems.
-
your aunt may be better served by a larger laptop.... the ASPIRE 5315 is pretty good for most general purpose applicatons... it is not a gaming PC and the graphics are not upgradable... but most of the other parts of this laptop are upgradable,, i've upgraded CPU, RAM, DVD BURNER, ATHEROS pre N class AR5008X WIFI.. i wish i had bought every one of these back last november when walmart had them for $348... now they cost $468 minimum if buying NEW,,, but referbs can be had for $369 if you look!
i'd like to have an ASPIRE ONE, but it's hard to justify paying more for a MINI-LAPTOP than what i paid for my regular form-factor lappy.
i just wonder how long till we see ONEs pimped out like this EEEpc -
have had mine for 3 weeks, upgraded ram to 1.5gb and put in 5400.5 320GB Seagate drive. Love it, use it every day, though I wish I had gotten an english keyboard and not the bilingual one (no choice in Canada).

Great community there and there is no question unanswered.
I have had mine for a couple weeks now, and its fantastic. I have loaded up Vista on it, and it runs it very well... to my surprise.
I think it was a great deal and Acer (for once) has impressed me. -
any one else seen the black screen issues on they yet?
-
I have not seen the black screen issue.
I have one that I love. I took it to a bar to watch the football game while I followed my fantasy football team.
I had 3 people come by and comment how "cool", "cute", "sweet" it was. I love it.
For the price, it's easily the best bang for the buck out there.
Does anybody have an Aspire One? Need Feedback
