Today, I was looking at my friend's 17" LG LCD (desktop) and I saw that letters were shown bad. Indeed, letters seemed thick and bold and in the case of letters like e, something like a shadow was around the circular part of this letter. I increased the resolution but nothing changed with this problem.

Does this problem has a specific name?

How about acer LCDs? 4402 or 5003? same thing on them too?

    thanks

Perhaps the clear type settings are bad. I'd start by turning that off to see if it makes a difference for you. And of course running at anything below native resolution will cause distortion as well.

Brian, u mean that has happened because that 17" LCD has not been at its native resolution? So the only way would be to use even higher resolution? I checked it at 800*600 and 1024*768 but at both letters were not as i am now seeing on my 17" CRT (non LCD) display now.

It is important to me since I wanna know that if there r notebooks that may have same problem on screen and i want to avoid them, since i am going to buy one soon.

You might consider updating the video drives. I have seen this problem in the past and updating the drives worked for me.

    Hope this helps
