Vista -what a clunky POS, but anyway - followed the guide and used Nlite to burn an XP install disc, that all worked fine. But I understand installing the drivers for the 5315 is a bit tricky - what should I look for? Is it true that the 5315 is not really supported under XP?

true that ACER doesn't support XP on the 5315.... but they do have drivers from acer that work perfectly with XP

my family has 3 of these 5315's,, and 2 of them are running XP and have been since january when i first found the SOULPASS.COM site and figured out how to embed the SATA drivers into an XP CD using NLITE

Ok thanks. I tried to flash my bios under Vista (to solve my 2gb ram problem) but the vista version of the flasher kept telling me it was unable to do squat.....very annoying. So now at least XP is on there....perhaps I will be able to flash the bios.

with XP you will have no problems

with vista you must rightclick and run as adminstrator....
atleast that is all i've had to do with my mom's 5315 w/ a vista OS
