As you probably figure it out... i have a acer aspire 5315 laptop. Currently i'm using windows VISTA 64 bit and i want to try Windows XP 64.

With 2 GB of RAM, the processor is a Celeron M540, video X3100 Intel ... i wonder if i will see an improvement in speed. I want some opinions about this from users that had VISTA more than 1 or 2 months :|

Hm... and i suppose i get a positive feedback about XP... i still need the 64 bit driver version for SATA :|. I've searched the net and tried some drivers but... nothing. So can someone help me find the suitable drivers for my HDD ? (without those i will be forced to set my controller on IDE and loss some performance)

    1. Download the driver
    2. Copy the iata82_enu.exe to your C:\
    3. Go to: Start->Run-> type cmd then press 'Enter'
    4. Type :
    4.1) cd\ [press 'Enter']
    4.2) iata82_enu.exe -a -p C:\Intel [press 'Enter']

Done. The .exe is extracted in C:\Intel

It worked and i've managed to install all the drivers on my Windows XP 64 bits version.

Unfortunately, there are some things that i dislike :|.
One of them is that i could install the ALPS drivers for my touchpad. The synaptics drivers are pretty stupid. With them i couldn't scroll and drag efficiently ... i didn't find the option to deactivate the touchpad while i'm typing (probably this could be do with an additional software...).
Another one is the fact that with the same driver for my audio card i had less options (sample rate and virtual surround missing :|. this last option is great when you have 2 speakers very close).
One more >> the power options are basic in Windows XP :|. You can't even set the lcd brightness :| by default .
The "clear type" mode is poor in windows XP. It still needs some adjustments (but this could be easily done with one of my favorite programs Tuneup Utilities).

I will keep windows Vista for a while ... when i will become a gamer or something that uses the RAM intensively i will change my windows to XP.

    Anyway... 10x for help.

    ALPS for XP 64

To disable the touchpad you have some keyboard shortcut, like Ctrl+F7 in my case.

What soundcard do you have, Realtek? What driver version do you have?

Power optinos..I don't know for any way to adjust the brightness by default, but you always can use the keyboard shortcut to do it, in my case Ctrl+'left arrow/right arrow'.

I didn't tried this particular driver, but the drivers from the official ACER website have the same format (2 folders with 32 and 64 bits files) and they didn't work. A msg that informs me that the driver can't run on my windows appears (even if i select the driver form the "64" folder).

Yeah, i know all the shortcuts and they work with any OS (Fn+F7 in my case). I'm talking about a very interesting option that disables the touchpad automatically for a time given by you.

ALC 268, latest driver (i think 1.91) 6.0.1.5628. I think that virtual surround is an option that is specifically to vista.

I know that i can :p. I will think about XP... i have all the drivers (i bet that those drivers for ALPS don't work :)) ) and the "know how" and all the windows versions are "free" so it doesn't matter if i try them ("free" = academic license).

ALPS touchpad drivers are Vista only as far as I know. So what you're trying to run on XP is actually vista driver. What I gave you in the link is ALPS XP64 driver, I think is made by Compaq.
