Hyall, I have an Aspire model 1642NWLMI and I wanted to know if it's ok to leave the CPU speed to "high" instead of "maximum" when it's on AC power in the ePower Utility... I have this small litle program which measures the temperature and the speed and the rate at which it's charging and all and if I leave it on "high" the speed keeps modifying from 600 to 800 and then to 1700 and so on and so forth.. is that good, of it will have negative consequences in the future?

Yes, it's fine. As long as you watch out for excessive heat, especially if you leave your notebook on 24/7.

For heat, how long have you had the laptop, and have you done anything (cooling pads etc) to try to lower the heat (and has the heat always been this high).

My 8204 was recently getting upto 95+ and shutting down when playing Black and White 2, I took the bottom off, cleaned out the vents using some compressed air and now it gets to about 63 while playing the same game.

HUGE difference, while I didn't see TONS of dirt coming out, it obviously did the trick.

well it's not a time issue, I've had it for 5 months now and I'm not playing very new games, but all the same, they get to these temps... i'm using a cooling pad, but it just cools the hard-drive, i don't see any other differences.. the temperature i've listed is only in games, not in everyday applications (word and web surfing)... but still I am worried... and i can't do anything as it is stil in warranty... i haven't been using it in a dusty environment... what do you guys think of a BIOS update? how do I do it? could it have better results after it? how can I restore it in case it's no good?
