Just use Add/Remove programs to uninstall Norton antivirus and use AVG instead. No memory hog and its free.

i cant see any real use for it now i have the bootable dvd -
You can disable all the apps.

and it's great but it's only misses the screen brightness setting. -
Empowering Framework has nothing to do with screen brightness. You can simply use add/remove to remove all the Empowering Technology stuff, and things like Gridvista if you don't use them. If you ever want to restore your Acer to factory spec, you simply access the recovery software by typing alt-F10 at the Acer bootscreen. Don't remove the Launcher though. You need that to run many features on the computer.
There's no need at all to reformat a computer to get rid of bloatware. That's nothing but a big myth. Just use the usual Add/Remove in the Control Panel. Some programs do leave folders behind (which you can delete), and some do leave some entries in the registry. These don't affect anything whatsoever, but you can always just edit your registry manually (it's a waste of time, though). I find that Norton uninstalls pretty cleanly now, as do most programs.
That being said, I think that everyone, including me sometimes, worry too much about "bloatware" on our computers. Just leave it and ignore it, unless you have a seriously small hard drive and you need the space. If it bothers you to see it, just delete the entries for it in the Startup menu. Pre-installed software doesn't affect how the computer runs, except if it happens to also start a process or service at startup. In that case, just disable the process or service if you know which one it is (use Services in the Administrative Tools, and use MSconfig. -
Thanks,

hi hoggie
starling gave very sensible advise. Thats why I gave him positive reps.
Far too many folks start changing things at random, reformatting and generally going on a mission for no reason. They end up with a PC that has multiple issues and then clog the forums looking for help to fix the stuff up they created.

night mate its late here aswell so bed time for me to

Thanks Theo and Hoggie.
I find that compared to most makes, Acer notebooks come pretty clean, at least the ones sold here in Canada. Not much on them except Norton (easily uninstalled if you want) and the Empowering Technology stuff. Just download and install a few good open source apps and you're good to go at minimal expense. -
