    Hello!

I have a new Aspire 8935G with Realtek audio (AL889, if I read it well) and I'm not able to use digital output.

I tried using a common stereo jack to RCA cable, using just the left (black) RCA to plug into the digital COAX input of my ampilfier, but nothing came from the speakers.

Do you know how to setup the digital output of the Aspire?

    Thanks a lot!!

You cannot use a jack to rca for digital output. You should have a coax to coax cable and plug it into a digital input in your amp or surround set.

I'm not sure what you mean: my acer has only a 3,5mm jack for both headphones and SPDIF output.
Do you mean the cable is somehow diffrent?

SPDIF is a digital connection (the signal is digital) and jack is analog. There is no way you can output a digital signal over a jack connector.

If your notebook doesn't have a physical digital output be it a coax connector or a toslink connector you cannot output a digital signal.

    Like this:

The only way to output a digital signal is if you use your HDMI connection to output the audio signal. But then you need a amp or a surroundset that supports HDMI input.

When I look at the specs of the 8935g on the acer site it clearly states ther should be spdif SUPPORT but it doesn't have the connector so HDMI would be your only option. Or you can look for a usb or expresscard soundcard.

I can't take a picture, but the third jack on my PC is clearly marked with a Headphones simbol / SPDIF mark... What does this mean?

I think, you need an optical cable from 3.5mm to TosLink.
    Plug it in the headphone-jack.
    On my 1410 it works.

I'm starting to understand now; the only thing is my ampli has only electrical coax RCA input, so what do I need?

    Well, specs say it has
    1x Headphones/speaker/line-out jack with S/PDIF support

It does not say whether its optical or electrical (I thought it was elect.)

Take a look at this topic :) You'll see an adapter there, this is what you are searching for, and this is what I'm using :)

    I'm getting close! :)

Acer confirms the output is optical; the only problem that still remains is my ampli has only electrical coax RCA input... What do I need to convert to that?

My world is upside down at the moment.... :wideeyed:

NEVER NEVER EVER have I heard of a mini toslink adapter. :eek2:

You know PDario, if it wasn't for you I never new there was such a thing. :notworthy:

I just thought they left out the optical connector and you should do with either 6ch direct or HDMI.

I can't wait to try my just ordered mini-toslink to toslink cable

You can use something like this.
