    Hi

I want to format my computer. What should i do?

I have already passed the folder c:\acer\DRV to a CD. In that folder there are all the drivers for all the components in the computer. IS that all i have to do?

I have heard some of you talking about Erecovery, what is it for? what does it do?

    thanks

did you burn the Recovery DVD (bootable)?
    1 Boot to Windows XP.
2 Press Alt + F10 to open the Acer eRecovery Management utility.
3 Enter the password to proceed. The default password is six zeros.
4 In the Acer eRecovery Management window, select Recovery settings and
    click Next.
5 In the Recovery settings window, select Burn image to disk and click Next.
6 In the Burn image to disk window, select 1. Factory default image or
    2. Application CD and click Next.
7 Follow the instructions on screen to complete the process.

I can't burn a DVD image either using erecovery latest version. I've also got a 5920g with a Slimtype DVD A DS8A1P. The drive also has problems reading some DVDs which play fine on my other PCs and DVD players. I've got a feeling the Slimtype could be the culprit.

vista has so many holes in it at this time that you are not the only ones haveing trouble with DVD's and vista. i have an aspire that under vista would not burn DVD recovery. but the D2D recovery worked ok
after i rolled back to xp all is well.my other aspire which came with xp pro burned the recovery dvd with no trouble what so ever.
so i think the trouble is with vista :(

Well I don't think that theproblem is coused by DVD. It's probably eRecovery software problem. Well I can't also run D2D recovery. It doesn't work, nothing happens after ALT+F10. But when I change hidden partition to active. D2D starts but it fails after pressing restore button. I belive that it's becouse I change C: partition size to 25GB. Now I have no idee how to restore Vista if my system stops responding :) Maybe some one could send this issue to Acer Support and they will give as solution how to burn recovery DVD.

Thx for replay. Well I can set hidden partition to active with some Acronis software, but it fail to restore Vista as I wrote in previous meessage. In some forum thread I found that there is a hidden folder on partition D: named 'erData'. But on my HDD I don't see it. I accidently deleted it. I belive that the folder contained some importat informations to restore Factory default Vista. Maybe someone could help me by sending this folder by email and I will try. I have Acer Aspire 5920G.

I've now managed to make a successful backup using DVD-RW (DATASAFE) disks instead of the DVD+R (Hi Space) that I was using before so it seems its a DVD drive/media issue for me.

    Hi guys :)

Im still new to this forum.

I have a similar problem as you, and I have the same laptop as you, Acer Aspire 5920G.

I wanted to install xp, since the vista preinstalled is buggy and runs slow in my laptop. My problem lies in the intallation of xp since xp is going to wipe out the hdd. Wiping out the hdd during the xp installation would mean deleting the hidden partion needed by the eRecovery Manager.

Will the back up I made using the eRecovery Management before XP installation still work even though the hidden partion is wiped out?

I wanted to save the vista since I paid for it along with my hardware :)

Thanks a lot in advance guys :)
