Hello all,
I have an Acer Aspire 5742ZG and the ethernet port stopped working.
I tested the cable on another laptop and it worked... so I know the cable is ok.
Interesting is that the Ethernet Port still shows the GREEN signal when connecting the cable to the computer...
What can it be? How to fix this?

What does your Network and Sharing Panel show in the graphic for connectivity on the ethernet? Is local network connected and Internet is disconnected, or is the link broken to the network?
You could try a different cable, even it the old one works in another laptop the clearances might be different, try another style ethernet connector and wiggle it / push it in all the way and then gradually pull out against the lock, does it connect?
So first you determine if it's software before delving into bad hardware.TakedaYabu likes this. -

Sometimes the Ethernet Disable will hang and stop the shutdown - so you have to push and hold the power button - then power it up and it should enable the ethernet.
I disable Hibernation and Sleep these days and live with normal full shutdown and cold boot. The SSD's and machines are so fast these days it's pretty quick to boot up - not as fast as coming out of sleep or hibernation, but it's fast enough for me, without the ethernet hangs and other oddities.
Start a cmd shell As Administrator:
powercfg /h off <= disables hibernation, reboot
powercfg /h on <= enables hibernation, reboot - not recommended.
You also benefit by removing the 1x memory sized hidden file C:\hiberfil.sys which for me + no pagefile.sys saves me 64GB on my boot drive.
