Hello everybody! This is my first post on this forum!
I have an Acer 5930G-944G32BN.
Recently I bought an sound card: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook without knowing that my laptop doesn't have PCMCIA port!![]()
I found this adaptor: Express Card 34 To PCMCIA. After I looked again in my laptop specs i see that my laptop has ExpressCard/54 Slot.![]()
BUT: I took a flashlight and looked into express card slot, and I saw that this slot has a strange shape. Something like in the attached picture!
Like my laptop has both express card type, 54 and 34! But, even in the Service Manual of my laptop says ExpressCard™/54 slot. Nothing about 34! And I'm confused, because the shape of the slot looks like I have both type (dimensions).
So, this is my question: can you tell me if I can use that adapter?

ExpressCard 34 can be used in ExpressCard 54 slot.

My experience with Expresscard slots has all been bad. In theory it will work and it's worth a try, but first the smaller Expresscard will be loose in the larger slot so you will need to buy the clip on piece of plastic to make the small card look bigger. Then you will have two wobbly cards poking out which will be even more wobbly when connected to audio cables. Third, there seems to be something iffy about the drivers for these things. Here, I haven't been able to get firewire expresscards working on either machine that has this utterly incompetent physical design of slot.
Oh, and my Acer 5536 was advertised as having this slot but didn't when it arrived. Maybe I'm prejudiced.
Apart from that, it's a great concept! Do let us know how you get on. -
Well, thanks for your answers! So, can I proceed with ordering the adapter, right?
I will keep you up-to-date with how will works! I hope that in 1 week to have that adapter! -
See if you can find an ExpressCard/54 to PCMCIA adapter - it'll fill the larger slot better.
Or better yet, try to return the SoundBlaster and get the X-Fi ExpressCard model. -
I bought my sound-blaster from a friend with 50€. So, there is no possibility to return it. Even if I want to buy that X-Fi ExpressCard, I found it only on Amazon! And Amazon doesn't make delivery in Greece (where i live now). I have search this X-Fi hard, but I didn't find it! If you know where i can buy it (delivered in Athens/Greece) I will be eternal great full!
On e-Bay is with 108$ + 40$ shipping!
I have founded another sound card, but none of them are as good as this! -
I suppose I ought to throw in that it all depends what you want the soundcard for. If you want to do professional editing and recording, you would be far better looking for something more suitable. For example, the E-MU line from Creative rather than the similarly-priced non-pro Soundblaster line.

A, no man. I just want to watch movies, play games and listen some music. Nothing fancy.

Well, my adapter just arrive 2 days ago. Works just fine! The adapter! But, I can't say the same thing about Creative!
I don't believe, a company like Creative having some poor drivers! First, the THX doesn't work because of some DLL. Second, after some tricky things I have managed to have sound in every speaker, but it switched my speakers (the front speakers became rear)! And, the 3rd problem: the windows don't shut down anymore! Exactly like here. After spend many hours searching on the internet, I have seen that are many problem with Creative drivers! So, I decided to use KX drivers! But, after I uninstalled the Creative, maybe wasn't proper uninstalled , because the KX doesn't work! I have install KX but I have no sound!
So, finally, I have re-installed my Windows, and this evening I will try again with KX!
