    Hi all,

    Sorry if this has been covered many times, I have searched the forum with no resolution to my problem..

    I bought an Extensa 4420 from BB the other day, had Vista, got rid of it and installed XP Pro on it... having problems with the drives; I think the display driver.

    All was well but would frequently get a freeze when typically using IE7, flash of "problem with.." blue screen and instant shut-down and reboot etc. - was once able to send an error report to MS; which all indications was pointing to display driver issue.

    I currently have VGA ATi 3.871 installed as its the only one which will install and run (which at one point wouldn't initialize inorder to uninstall but was able to reinstall it) - had updated SP3 (maybe causeing issues??) but have since uninstalled it back to SP2. Things have been relatively okay but now comp has reverted back to the fuzzy, dusty grainy screen with the display control panel having the 2 options of 800x600 or 1024x786 rez.. like it was just after installing XP - can't get the crystal clear screen which I once somehow had.

    I have spent this whole week installing and reinstalling drivers etc but haven't had any luck... I have pulled out my hair trying to resolve this and seeking help!!! I have a screen shot of all which is intalled thus far on my 4420;

    Since its Halloween season, I have a ghost in the machine!
    Help and assistance is greatly appreciated.... many advanced thanks!!

    Oh,
    Athlon x2
    Bios 1.17
    ATi radeon 1250
    (usual specs otherwise)

    I think it's a graphic driver problem. You have to uninstall(all of it!) the old drivers and install a new ones.

    Thanks for your reply atthegates... just tried those and doesn't seem to help either. Grrr

    Even went the lengths to reinstall XP and start all over too!

    I have been emailing acer and they can't help - found corrupted drivers on their site and they admit that they have them and "working on it, sorry for the inconveniance".. story of my life.

    Alas, I think I've found something which seems to work so far.. so anyone who has been enountering the same frustrations as I have...

    I did the whole suite from the ati site (http not www) //game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=xp/radeonx-xp
    sorry, not allowed to post urls just yet.
